Hobbies - A thread for other things we kill time doing.

We have the gorgeous photography threads for birding and astronomy. I figured we could use another thread to show off some of our other hobbies. Plus, its another distraction from *gestures broadly at the world events*.

For example, I also collect expensive Danish plastic and put them together, and sometimes take photos of them as well.

As inspired by a post I made on Bluesky, here's the Lego Brick Bank building posed with some DC Batman characters.

Oh boy. I'm going to have to spam this thread soon with photos of my Lego collection too! I picked up 2 more sets today. Inching closer to 600 sets. Right now I'm sorting through about another 20-30 lbs worth of bulk pieces I have acquired recently. I'll probably part out a few sets from my bulk after that and then see about doing some of my own buildings I have been thinking about.

I also do quite a bit of fly tying. It took a while to get any good at that. But now I only use flies I have tied myself for fly fishing. I also started building rods a while back. I've built a few ice rods for myself and did one commission (for a coworker who says it's his favorite ice rod by far). I also built my first fly rod recently but haven't used it yet. I go through spurts of doing jigsaw puzzles too.

Speaking of LEGO, give me a billion dollars and I’d spend most of my time and money doing this.
I've seen some videos of his pop up on my social media feeds. Some good looking builds.

I really want a house with a large open basement just so I can properly display my collection/build a city. I have 6 of the motorized Lego trains and I really want to be able to have a big enough area to set up a bunch of the track. I'd also have a pirate and medieval section.

I'm so worried about dust (especially on Lego) that I don't know if I could display them that much in the open. I currently have an IKEA bookcase with glass doors, and a fully glass IKEA display case for them. And even then there's still a little bit of dust on them.

As for basement, I'd do an HO train display. I have a good number of train items packed away at my mother's house that I haven't touched in over twenty years.

This. If I had eleventy billion dollars I would do HO displays and only use sets manufactured before 1970. (That carbon smell as they short out is my cologne.)

Great writeup of the birth of Mantua / Tyco.

Fun fact: Tyco went to shit because in 1970 the founder died and the company was bought by Sara Fucking Lee.

I thought I had one with the Bat-signal and Commissioner Gordon as well, but I can't find it.
