Hobart Statesmen Hockey 2024-2025 Reigning D3 Back to Back Champions

Great goal by Luke(especially seeing it live!!) Trine came out in the second period like the team that wanted it more...a few words by coach Taylor in the locker room and the Statesmen came out in the third like a team possessed . I mentioned here before that Hobart gets the activity but they haven't been converting consistently, this must change next week. Hats off to Trine, they played tough and could have easily finished with an upset . The East shuts out the West and it's Final Four and a chance for a three peat in Utica....a much shorter drive than the alternatives.
Based on what I saw in Hobart's last two games (NEHC final and last night), they are having a real problem finishing their scoring opportunities. Something that didn't bother them the past two years, at least not at this rate.

That's going to eventually cost them.

Congratulations to 2X NCAA D3 Champion Hobart grad and Bentley University grad student , Artem Buzoverya for reaching the D1 NCAA tournament and facing #1 seed Boston College on 3/28 in the first round. Artem has contributed 16 points to Bentley's offense this season. All the best to Artem in the D1 tournament, and thanks for your creating the foundation to Hobart's attempt at the three peat this weekend.

Hobart fans , consider coming to the semi-final this Friday at 3 pm and check out the Lexus facility, it looks awesome.

We love Artem over at Bentley, but unfortunately he was injured in the regular season finale at Holy Cross, and I'm fairly sure he won't be playing. :(

That's too bad. He was a great player and student at Hobart and offered some insight into life/the war with his Russian teammate at Hobart. Good luck against BC.

About 24 hours to go to the start of the Golden Knights versus the Statesmen. USCHO writers both picked Hobart by one goal scores. This Ice Knights squad has put away Utica three times this season and from all accounts is the best offensive team in the tournament. Even if Hobart gets a lead early , these flying Knights look like they can score at any time. This is the scariest game of the season for the Statesmen because Geneseo has the offensive talent to mount a multiple goal lead even with our disciplined defense and shut down goaltender. I think the offense must score at least three goals if not four to come away with a win . We must convert our shotmaking from recent games and find the back of the net like Luke did to win in OT last week. GO 'BART.

They're the Blue Knights, or colloquially, the Ice Knights. Should be a good game :)

Hey 'Bart!
Yeah 'Bart!
Go "Bart!
Win 'Bart!

The dream of a 3-peat is still alive!

Congrats to Geneseo on an amazing season. If I'm not mistaken, I think that is a very young team. Guessing we'll (continue to) see more from Genny in the coming years.

Hobart looked like Hobart this afternoon...but I worry a bit that they still seem to be struggling to finish their chances lately. That said, when you can hold the #1 offense in the country to a single goal you must be doing something right. 😜

Good energy in Utica this afternoon from the crowd and the team. But as Llama said, gotta finish those chances. The announcer was right behind me and said it felt like a 4-0 Hobart game, but they were not finishing their chances. In any event in the big game and we'll see who we get.
Beautiful facility, great lighting and replay screen with individual seats. Must be nice when your county contributes most of the $47 Million to build it. UU was hit up for $150k for 10 year naming rights, Utica is lucky as hell to get a facility like that for so little of a contribution. I don't think Geneva can get Ontario County to contribute much for an upgrade, but it would be nice. Hobart would love to contribute to a partnership, but not the whole thing.

Congrats Hobart. They made a very good team look pretty average. Very nice facility and Jaslow should approve of the pretzels.
Hobart kept the" young Knights" in check for almost the whole game....you could feel that the Genny offense wanted to explode but Hobart was relentless on defense and gave the Knights very little space. I know this young Geneseo team will be back next year with great intensity. Total respect for the SUNY Geneseo team/program.
Now we have the matchup I preferred....Utica in their city/house hungry for their first Natty. A great challenge for the Statesmen to earn the three -peat. It should be awesome.

That was a great game by Hobart. First time in quite awhile a team made Geneseo look slow. Easily could have been a much more lopsided score if Harris didn’t have one of his best games of the year. Good luck on Sunday

Mark Taylor said something interesting at the post-game press conference. When asked about having to face the top offense, he seemed to take a bit of umbrage. He responded that we are only have a goal behind their pace. It's not like we can't score.

Yes, this was a rebuilding year, one that Chris Schultz expected to take a year (i.e., next year) to be able to get this far. So, he's ahead of schedule. And though they will be losing a few big key players, the foundation is there to do even better next year.

(P.S. On a different topic, concerning the Knights nickname, coincidentally, my high school was the Blue Knights.)

They feed us media types at events like this (this time very well). So, I didn't check out the pretzels.

However, I'll be back there next Sunday to cover the USA Nationals Youth Tier II 18U tournament. So, I'll have to remember to give them a try.
