Hey, We Suck Less Now: Michigan Tech Season Thread Part VI

Re: Hey, We Suck Less Now: Michigan Tech Season Thread Part VI

I wouldn't say Tech has a good shot at facing NMU, NMU would have to upset the #2 seed Indianapolis and then the winner of the #3 #6 seed game and Tech would have to win all there games just to meet in the finals. And achieving Tech sports shouldn't be talked about in this thread, it is not the theme.
Probably right, but eh, its something that could happen.
I thought Gannon was in our regional?
Nope, Gannon left the Midwest Regional when they left the conference. They're out east now.

Re: Hey, We Suck Less Now: Michigan Tech Season Thread Part VI

Also, I yelled at Martina Navritilova as I was leaving Friday night, very loudly (ask MEg, biddco, and "miss" fit): "SUCK IS NOT PROFANITY!!!!!!!"

We should have done Tech once.

That's a sign idea for the next trip there.

And, yes, you should have. Were you part of the group that did that cheer in the stairwell at the Joe during GLI?

We did Tech Once outside Ralph both nights...plus saturday night Brent and I did Tech Once in a bar right before consuming irish car bombs...d@/\/\n those are good :D

I hope Michigan Tech is looking at this Ben Johnson kid from the Calumet Copper Kings. Don't know what his stats are or how old the kid is but he seem like a naturally gifted player.

The looks on the faces of the folks standing near the entrance to the stairwell down to the Olympia Club as we exited after doing "Tech Once!" were priceless. :D

Yeah, uh, I was a few feet away from Shirtless/bbdl when we started Tech Once the first night, and was cutting through a family group to get to SG/bbdl. Their eyes got as wide as dinner plates. :D

But the bar liked the cheer. A really cute girl also liked our "F the Red Wings!" when Journey started playing.

Too bad she had a boyfriend...who happen to love the red wings...:p

The word on the street is they are now looking at a video centerhung scoreboard instead of a end wall display for the MacInnes.

Interesting. My guess would be that perhaps a random donor wanted to see it happen and may have given them extra money to play with. Total shot in the dark on my part though, especially since this is just a rumor at this point.

Re: Hey, We Suck Less Now: Michigan Tech Season Thread Part VI

The real question would be, how many video screens would a center hung board have? Two for sure and three side seems almost as certain since you just put up big dollar suites on one end. But a 4th screen facing today's concrete end of the rink was might seem like a questionable expense.

I propose we get one similar to the new Cowboys stadium about 200 feet long so that the game can be shown live in full scale on the replay screen. Then those who sit in the cheap seat won't have to be looking down at the game on the ice all the time. Now that's thinking outside the box, er rink.

But seriously, I think the real determining factor is what they plan to do with the concrete wall end of the rink in the next 10-15 years. If they have any thoughts of a complete wrap around walk way and/or more seating like Jamie discussed with me when we were taking the old wood seats out of the rink, I don't think the "end zone" video replay board makes much sense. In today's three sided seating it would be a reasonable option. Also if you're only buying one screen vs 3 or 4 you can make it much bigger and/or better quality for the same price. Personally, I'll buy a few extra jerseys from the team to raise the funds if it means they can go full HD. I can see it now, our new 1200" diagonal (viewable area, actual image size my vary based on signal) HD replay screen will be the talk of the college hockey world.

I don't know why they would add more seating when the existing seats are about half-empty for all but maybe four games a season. I could see them extending the concourse and perhaps adding additional skyboxes though.

Once the scoreboard gets updated, I'd rather they spend additional money on behind-the-scenes things that will actually improve the program and its marketability to recruits, rather than continue to "put lipstick on a pig".

please don't call our beloved Huskies pigs. :(

Re: Hey, We Suck Less Now: Michigan Tech Season Thread Part VI

Any particular reason flashy?

I believe the reasoning is it works better with the arena plans and a centerhung looks more impressive.

Doesn't sound like the money isn't quite there.

A centerhung would have 4 displays, otherwise your loading completely different structurally and would take a greater undertaking to correctly balance the thing.
