HE Quarterfinals: #8 Vermont @ #1 New Hampshire: "Spooning Since 1791"

Re: HE Quarterfinals: #8 Vermont @ #1 New Hampshire: "Spooning Since 1791"

probably the most interesting series of the weekend. I wish it was on tv over here in wisconsin...

I honestly think BU vs. MC wil be a dandy too.

BC has owned UMA so I would be surprised if it is close. Maine is in trouble with Darling suspended, so I see a UML win.

Sneddon said in his transcript that we "have healed from some injuries"......man I hope Wahs will be back in the line up and ready to go. Offensively the Cat's played well at UNH last time out. Madore needed to be better but Wahs would have made a difference.....

"Play each game like it's your last game," says Senior forward Bobby Butler. To me, that seems like the right mentality -- and a different mentality than a UNH team would have had in the past. Will it translate into playing hard, and success in the Hockey East tournament?

I'm sure that Vermont will also play with that "back against the wall" feeling, but it's not as new to them as to UNH, perhaps. I'm curious to see if UNH can make it work for them; as one reporter mentioned, they've gotten so good at the come from behind game, can they translate that into a 60 minute effort?

Looking forward to this weekend.

Wahs haa not played in more than a month right? How helpful can he be?

Or maybe sneddon meant franzon or anctil?

Really??

UVM is a stonger team with Wahs then without. No question about it. How effective was he in the first game of the season??

Re: HE Quarterfinals: #8 Vermont @ #1 New Hampshire: "Spooning Since 1791"

Not expecting a Wahs Stacey return. Would he help? Tough to say, he would probably slide into N-Roos spot w/Rohloff and Downing and N-Roos slides to line 4....don't count on this. Wahs, if repaired enough to skate, still is nowhere near game shape.

Didn't see anything glaring with Franzon last weekend, assume he will be back but would think they might shorten the bench on D and rotate 5. Also, Anctil didn't seem to be in a sling or anything so maybe he was referring to him.....also those two were on the trip to Lowell, Wahs wasn't.

It's the playoffs and that means the goaltending position is more than ever thrust into the spotlight. Will need the best of Rob Madore to even be in the ballgame.

With some of the excitement back (sell-out vs BC)

perhaps technically, but there were still empty seats ... gotta love season ticket holders that can't be bothered to come to games as significant as last Friday's

I noticed that. Especially in the corners on Friday night. I was a little surprised. It was close to full but definitely wasn't packed either.

Happens at BC too, unfortunately.

Not sure it makes up for ALL of the empty seats, but Friday night there were a TON of people watching from the Concourse, more than I can remember normally seeing. That said, it'll never be like it was 10 years ago in that place, unfortunately

Re: HE Quarterfinals: #8 Vermont @ #1 New Hampshire: "Spooning Since 1791"

If you have watched UVM at any other time this season you would know that this is invalid logic. Perhaps a sweep will happen but not based on the reasoning of how they played last weekend. UVM is unfortunately very inconsistent and saying how they will do one week based on the last week is like predicting the lottery. However, my lottery prediction is that this series goes to a third game.

Anyone think that UVM would get to practice at Lake Whit? I doubt it but if Sneddon asked would it be allowed? Would it even make a difference? Should it be allowed for teams to get a feel of the opposing ice? Thoughts?

I based my prediction on what I witnessed last weekend when UVM was on the road in Lowell.

I stand by my prediction: UNH sweeps.

HEY! I gave my ticket to someone else who DID attend. :p

I'm on 2nd shift at work so I had to give up my Friday ticket, but we weren't busy that night, so I took a few hours off. Swung by the Whitt hoping to pick up a ticket, but they were sold out.

Wahs actually was on the Lowell trip as I saw him along with the other players who didn't dress as they were walking into the rink. He also was not walking with any sort of noticable limp so who know maybe he will indeed be back.

Re: HE Quarterfinals: #8 Vermont @ #1 New Hampshire: "Spooning Since 1791"

Just curious, why? What's been the difference?

1.) Product on the ice; UNH was consistently ranked #5 or up; now, they're more middle of the rankings. Slightly lower talent level = slightly lower expectations = slightly lower fan involvement.

2.) Too many season tickets holders in the same seats for too long, getting apathetic. I recently moved to a new section, after spending 9 years in the student section. I tried starting a UNH chant, and later recieved a call from athletics; ending line of a phone call was, "those people don't want to hear cheering at a hockey." I was pretty ****ed, by the way . . .

3.) Squashing of fan support, esp. from the student section . . . the administration and the students seem to be at war, sometimes (Black Betty!). Despite the best efforts of UNHHockey29, tCBG, UNHKazooMonkey, freak, and many others, the student section is not as into games as they used to be, partially because of administration, and partially because . . . they're just lazier than when i was 19 years old?

When I was a student, you'd leave the Whitt and your ears would ring sometimes. I miss those days.

Nope....Wahs will apparently miss the series. But Anctil and Franzon will suit up.

Re: HE Quarterfinals: #8 Vermont @ #1 New Hampshire: "Spooning Since 1791"

just listened to dick on the morning buzz and he gave props to uvm and how well they played down the stretch. he wouldn't say it but i will.........unh sweeps this series even though uvm played us tough a couple of weeks ago. i just think unh is too strong at home for uvm to take this series.
