Has UND lost in conference realignment?

Re: Has UND lost in conference realignment?

UND may not have lost anything as a program, but some of their fans seem to have lost their sense by continuing to argue with JDUBBS. :)

Don't be silly. Work gets boring sometimes and we all need to find something to entertain ourselves.

Ha! Yeah, they've lost nothing as a program. A major reduction in the number of their games seen nationally is a great thing.

Look, I'm just being honest. UND will be fine long-term, but I don't agree that losing national television exposure and no longer playing the Gophers regularly will have no effect on recruiting in MN long-term.

And I don't agree that UND is the more followed program. I didn't start the discussion, I just offered my opinion on the subject.

I'll reiterate that I've actually been quite complimentary in this discussion. And the fact that you feel the need to continue to call me, and me alone, out is getting pretty ridiculous.

Take a look in the mirror pal. What gives you the right to judge me? Seriously, I'm tired of the drama. If you don't like what I have to say, use the ignore feature.

Or.... you could make us all stop wanting to gouge our eyes out and stop posting.... If you are really tired of the drama, there have to be other things you can do with your time. Appletinis come to mind.

I'll just take the high road and say I am not going to stop posting, and if you don't like what I have to say you are free to use the ignore feature too. Have a Happy New Year.

And I'll go to sleep tonight knowing that there aren't hundreds of posters hoping I fall into a coma for the rest of my life. And don't act like its easy enough for one person to just ignore you. You derail every thread you jump into. De-Rail

Everything I've said in this thread, a part from defending myself from attacks from you and others (and playing with a screen name like many do with mine), has been on topic and cordial. So perhaps it is you, not I, that is derailing this thread.

So unless you would like to discuss the topic of this thread, or comment specifically on any of my on topic remarks, good night :)

mnstateofhockey was right about one thing - JDUBBS needs someone to dance with and he never lacks for partners. I do have him on ignore and don't respond to him. It's not that hard. :)

Now if you and others could only stop acknowledging him and the other Yahoos on here at all. Maybe that can be a collective New Years resolution :)

And then every thread will be like ECAC threads and be completely boring. The heck with that!

Re: Has UND lost in conference realignment?

Let's just agree that UND will never get another blue chipper because everyone will forget that they exist when they no longer play the Gophers. Jeez.

the demise of North Dakota's recruiting has been greatly exaggerated

UND head coach Dave Hakstol picked up verbal commitments from two highly-sought after Minnesota high school hockey players in St. Cloud Cathedral junior Austin Poganski and Holy Family sophomore Shane Gersich. Each player spoke highly of Grand Forks with Gersich telling the Minnesota Hockey Hub, "I loved the small-town feel, and I loved the campus. You couldn't ask for a better rink obviously. I really loved the coaching staff, it doesn't get better than those guys."

Evidently UND is still successfully recruiting Minnesota born blue chippers. Interesting that UM legacy Shane Gersich committed to UND. Perhaps if UM no longer plays UND more Minnesota kids will forget about playing for the Gophers.

The Ralph: the site of the greatest show, I'd been led to believe, that a hockey junkie could find.
I had not been misled.

The Sports Illustrated article refers to Sioux hockey as the greatest show. This "greatest show" will continue to impress recruits for years to come.

I don't disagree with many of your comments. I would like to add we will not know the ramifications of the Big Ten fall out for at least 5 years.

Re: Has UND lost in conference realignment?

^ a timely moment for a bump? Through almost the halfway point of the season, UND is 4-7-2 (having just lost to St. Lawrence of all teams) and is even below .500 in its own super league. As for the NCHC, there had even been rumors of Miami and Western Michigan being unhappy with the travel in the NCHC. The Big Ten and Hockey East strategically ignored the NCHC with their Big Ten/Hockey East Challenge and I can't help but be amazed at the coverage difference between the Big Ten and NCHC after watching the Big Ten openers today. Yes, Big Ten hockey is at the mercy of Football and Basketball but it still beats what the NCHC has gotten in terms of coverage. And, surprisingly, the Big Ten is promoting hockey very well. Penn State (the so called bottom barrel team in the Big Ten) is 4th in hockey attendance - aided partially by the Wells Fargo Center game - but no doubt is gaining a footing on its campus.

I think there is a lot of disappointed people in Grand Forks and the lack of the success by the hockey team is making the whole conference realignment thing frustrating for Sioux fans. And before anyone talks about Hakstol's storied second half runs, consider that the 2013-2014 UND team has very few pieces in place to do so. Perhaps this puts a different perspective on the "UND will be fine" and the "Big Ten is a joke" comments. Not saying the tracks are falling off after only a couple months but I think its safe to say that things are not all smiles on the Prairie and the home of the 12,000 seat palace.

Re: Has UND lost in conference realignment?

Half a year is not enough time to answer the question. Let's see what happens in five years. Then all the NCHC teams will be full of players recruited to play in the NCHC and things will be much more clear.
