Harvard @ RPI and Dartmouth @ RPI & Union (2/1, 2/2)

Re: Harvard @ RPI and Dartmouth @ RPI & Union (2/1, 2/2)

I like Roy, he seems to be pretty good.

Dumas is on notice.

Kotyra and Hicks are dead to me.

I just have not seen enough of Hicks to be able to put him on my worst list. But you have seen him often enough so I will be on the look out for him. Kotyra has distinguished himself by joining some very select company rather rapidly. He is on my 3 worst list of all time. Jen still feels Noeth has not been toppled from his position as worst of all time. As she so aptly put it- "Noeth Knoweth Nothing".

Re: Harvard @ RPI and Dartmouth @ RPI & Union (2/1, 2/2)

There must be some sort of art to dropping the puck. There has to be-since several of the linesmen we seem to get now just cannot do it properly. I never seemed to notice that years ago so it probably is a recent phenomenon. Missing off sides has been around for a long time but that too is happening seemingly more often.

Probably the concern of the linesman isn't necessarily a clean drop of the puck, but making sure he doesn't get his hand nearly sliced off by dueling sticks.

I don't think I've ever seen Noeth do a game. And I thought Frank Murphy was one of the worst...

RPI's game notes are out: http://www.rpiathletics.com/documents/2013/1/30/2012-13MHKYGameNotes_HarDar.pdf?id=1447

Roy and Dumas will be doing both games for RPI. Dumas was involved in the Princeton game a couple weeks ago.

In addition, Time Warner will be televising the Freakout at least in the Albany area (channel 1); check your local listings for anywhere else in NYS (Syracuse has Crunch/Amerks on the flagship; not sure about the alternates). As last year, they will merely be providing the uplink, while RPI-TV's crew will handle the game. I don't know the impact, if any, on the availability of a live stream because of TV.
couple of other notes for the weekend; Friday is Military Appreciation Night & it's also the Men's Hockey Alumni Weekend, they play a game Sat. (not sure of the time) & those present will be introduced between periods of BRF game.

The alumni game is at 11am. Used to be at noon.

Re: Harvard @ RPI and Dartmouth @ RPI & Union (2/1, 2/2)

Is anyone going to that game who can report on which alums are there? SA stated in a tweet that over 50 are expected.

Yeesh. Makes me wonder if they're going to try to fit two games in, then. Either that, or three rotating teams. Of course, that's also assuming the players are still in hockey shape enough to play (or they officiate). Depending on when pep band practice ends, I'd like to see some of the alumni game.

There are usually some who don't play.

Before your time. The student section used to audibly groan when he hit the ice.

Re: Harvard @ RPI and Dartmouth @ RPI & Union (2/1, 2/2)

His name rhymes with Phlegmination.

You have to be a special kind of slow to get noticed enough to be hated when you're a linesman. He sucks on wheels. He's the cause of more "drop the ****in puck" shouts from the crowd than the rest of the league combined.
Brussel Sprouts are a major factor in my Emanation :D

I seem to recall my father screaming at Harry Ammian quite a bit.:D

Harry got a bit of a bad rap as far as i can recall. Because he was a local boy-everyone felt he should give RPI a bit of ahome advantage. He never did. Harry was a straight arrow who called them as he saw them. We had him for an ECAC game up at Lake Placid one year and he did a great job-he put the whistle away early and just let the teams play. On the big sheet of ice, with few penalties, it was constant up and down action. I'm sure others may have felt differently, but I would never put him on a list with the Murphys, Noeth, Belanger et al.

Re: Harvard @ RPI and Dartmouth @ RPI & Union (2/1, 2/2)

From Union's perspective it would have been to their advantage to play Dartmouth on Saturday after a Friday night battle with RPI. I'm guessing maybe that factor and TV dictated scheduling of the Friday game. Any way we will probably soften up the Big Green for RPI to some extent.

I agree completely Doc. Harry was a friend of my late father -- a great gentleman away from the ice.

Sounds like you are saying you would prefer us to have soften them up for Union. Do you not like your chances when playing them fresh on a Friday night?

I guess that's another way of saying what I was thinking. I think we have a good chance against them, but it would seem they would have to be better if they were coming off a tough game the night before.

I hope you're kidding and my sarcasm detector is just broken.

It's based purely on alternating scheduling. Last season, when RPI and Union hosted Dartmouth and Harvard, Harvard played at Union and Dartmouth played at Rensselaer on Friday night. This season, it's switched to Dartmouth at Union and Harvard at RPI for Friday. Next season, it's back to Harvard-Union on Friday (composite schedule is a PDF attached to the first message).

And also that would mean that RPI would have been scheduled to play Harvard on Saturday, and that game would then have been rescheduled instead of the Union-Harvard game.

Leave it to Union to want the best of all worlds. :p
