Harvard Crimson 2022-2023

I thought Harvard played well tonight. Quinny is a very good team. And I think this was a preview of the ECAC final.

Too guys are gassed and having to do too much right now - PP, PK, etc. when Harvard gets back farinacci and Karpa, they will 3 very good lines and a 4th line expected to hit and be tough to play against.

Defense was much better tonight. Onto Clarkson and St Lawrence.

Harvard looked gassed…….Qpac pace had a lot to do with that. Does Coranado play on 3 lines?
geez….you have 15 nhl draft picks? Why do you triple shift one player?

Coronato is one of the best players in the country, why wouldn't you play him as much as possible?

Harvard spent a ton of energy the night before trying to come back against Princeton, and 2 of 3 Harvard’s top 2 centers are injured. So this puts a lot more on coronato as the top center.

harvard will be much better in bcc a few weeks when healthy.

You’re gonna wear the kid out….you did still have 4 centers dressed Saturday right? I bet your 4th line center is a NHL draft pick….we have 2….one in the 7th round (Brindamour) and one is the second to last pick in the draft (Lipkin).

You also have seven fifth-year players on your team, something the Ivies are forbidden from having.

A valid point, but that's not Quinnipiac's fault. Perhaps the Ivy League needs to join the 21st century. Why offer D-I athletics if you're going to put a stranglehold on the athletes?

Good game tonight. First period was fairly even, but Harvard really controlled the latter 2 periods. Great to have Farinacci back and he will only get better with more games. Aucoin and Karpa still out. Mullahy very solid in net. Some sloppy defense, particularly in the 1st period.

Had severo centering coronato and Farrell, but he went 2/14 on faceoffs. Meanwhile Tresca went 8-1. First line does do well with possession - you really need a guy who wins faceoffs.

Be great to get a 4pt weekend.

I get where you are going with the faceoffs. Baker Shore's faceoff win late in the third that led to Gaffney's goal was pure hard work on his part. Clarkson lost coverage and ultimately any chance to get back in the game on that play.

I thought the Knights dominated early until Harvard got their feet moving and took over the game after the 10-minute mark of the first period. This easily could have been a 7-1 game had Clarkson's goalie failed to make some ten-bell saves. He kept them in the game until the Gaffney goal.

Harvard will have some interesting roster decisions to make once Karpa returns. While I still prefer the Jersey boys to remain together, putting Gaffney on the third line gives them some offensive punch. One combo that could be interesting is returning Gaffney to the second line and putting Karpa at left wing on the third line with Shore and Joe Miller. That gives you three lines with scoring ability. And yes, I would consider moving Tresca to the first line between Coronato and Farrell. I think one of the reasons the coaching staff hasn't done it is that Tresca still has to learn to play a 200-foot game. His D-zone positioning needs some work.

Bring on the Saints!

At one time, the ivies did allow graduate exemptions. Mark Benning used it in 1987 to play one more year with the Crimson while taking graduate courses. I think Harvard reversed course when they saw that players were using it purely for playing time and not for any specific academic purpose.

So far, the virus that is NCAA men's football has not infected men's hockey but I'm not sure how long that will last. With the transfer portal being what it is and other schools allowing grad transfers (Casey Dornbach is playing at UMass this season as a grad eligible), the Ivies may be forced someday to split off and play a less competitive schedule as D-1A or D-1AA. Similar to what they do now in football.

Dornbach is at Denver

In contrast to Friday night, the Crimson came out flying from the drop of the puck and completely overwhelmed the Saints. This wasn't a contest as it was over pretty much by the end of the first period. And I have to say this; Sean Farrell's first goal was sick and filthy great. The Saint defenders were mesmerized, and I don't think their goalie realized what was happening until the puck was in the back of the net. Yikes! Farinacci's setup of Joe Miller's first goal was also a thing of beauty.

Not happy about the way the game unfolded in the third period when the Saints decided to lay the lumber and take some cheap shots at the Crimson. There's no room in the game for that and I think Teddy had a few choice words for SLU's coach at the end. SLU has never been known as a dirty team. They did themselves no favors last night, especially Dorrington. Not sure what his problem is but someone needs to sit him down and explain what is okay and what is unacceptable.

Surprised to see Mullahy back in the net. Wondering if Gibson is hurt or if they gave him the weekend off. Aucoin was back in the lineup. I think the coaching staff may be trying to give more playing time to seldom-used players like Jace Foskey.

That was the trademark of Carvel lead SL teams for years…..dirty hits and try to take out opponent’s best players…..Teds advise to the boys before the third period….keep your head up and move the puck quickly.

I can really envision an all ECAC NCAA final again……like 2013….Qpac and Harvard….this time we will take our opponent seriously!

Great weekend and thought Mullahy was the star and farinacci’s return was huge. He was very good both nights and it’s gotta give him and Harvard confidence to have goaltending depth. Farinacci is just so solid - in the faceoff dot, with the puck, etc. he is going to provide such a lift down the stretch.

harvard controlled the full game against SLU but I was disappointed with Harvard’s 3rd period. Lots of dumb penalties and lazy hockey. Yes, the game was over, but Harvard’s play definitely did not leave a lot to be desired.

everything ok with siedem? He has seemed a bit off for a few games now and I wonder if something going on.

when Karpa healthy, be interesting to see who gets bumped.

I’m going to chalk up the third period to being so far ahead and in control of the game that they lost their focus. Not to excuse their lazy play at all because they can’t afford that against the really good teams. Hopefully it will be addressed during practice this week.

The good: a win on the road against your rival, Karpa and Gibson back healthy.

the bad: team lacked cohesion, lots of hero hockey, some costly turnovers and lack of hustle back, faceoff struggles, and another indifferent 1st period / slow start.

brown is always a tough place to play as Harvard found out last year.
