Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

Re: Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

Harvard surgical when they needed to be. A little sloppy defensively. Aiken was in for Jaw at D and I thought a fairly significant drop off so hopefully Jaw back tomorrow.

7 different scorers showcasing the depth this team has.

Great win against Minnesota ..... defeat was not an acceptable outcome .... showed great character and great leadership ... helped the whole ECAC !!!

Re: Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

Solid win last night. I thought our D got exposed by Minnesota's forwards. Meaning, the speed with which Minnesota possesses coupled with the large ice sheet - I thought Harvard had problems with this. Did not help that Jaw was out as well and frankly, if he is injured, I was surprised that Aiken was the 6th D.

One of the cool moments last night was on the winning goal. It was Jacob Olson (from Minnesota) who broke up Minnesota's odd-man rush and turned the tide and sent Harvard back up the ice with its own odd man rush that led to the Vesey to Criscuolo game winner. Very cool moment for I am sure and I hope his family was there to witness.

Harvard now has two solid non conference wins on the road (@Notre Dame and @Minnesota).

Next up is BU on Thursday and then Quinnipiac on Saturday. This is a very tough stretch of hockey.

The other think worth noting is just how surgical this team is. You really can not take a shift off and if you do, Harvard will make you pay. Very few teams can finish like Harvard can this year.

This is a big difference maker for Harvard and Quinnipiac in the ECAC. From what I have seen, the other ECAC teams do not possess similar goal scoring ability which gets exposed when you play faster, deeper teams (case in point is the Cornell - Ohio St game down in Florida).

Nice comeback win yesterday for HU, one of the most entertaining games I've watched in a long time. The Crimson have a a fantastic team and are really fun to watch; best of luck the rest of the season!

Two in-season tournament championships down....

Harvard up to 5th on the USCHO.com poll. Looking forward to seeing them in person again on Thursday and I'll be traveling to NYC Saturday to catch the Quin game as well. Did broadcasters mention Malone/Blackwell injuries at all during the tournament?

I did not hear and they both played so I assume that all is good. Jaw did not play in the tournament so here's hoping he is back for BU & Quinny.

Couldn't help but smile at the thought of our last 4-3 OT win in Minnesota. We won that tournament as well! :)

Seriously, great weekend for the boys. Lots of character and grit coming back to tie after the Gophers scored twice in 30 seconds to take the lead late in the third. Gut check win. Zerter Gossage starting to assert himself and if we can continue to get contributions from the third and fourth lines, watch out.

I'll be at the BU game on Thursday. The Terriers are dealing with that gambling mess and also have a couple of players hurt and at the World Juniors. Ryan Donato looked okay in the games that I saw him play (the Russians completely overwhelmed his line - they were a non factor). It will be good to get him back in the lineup at least for Quinny if not BU.

On the BU site, it sounds like all BU players will be back for Thursday (they play today). It will be interesting to see if Donato plays (I would prefer he didn't so he gets rested and ready for Quinny on Saturday).

Donato with 2 goals against Sweden to help take home the bronze.

We'll see- Last year Quinn sat Eichel in a similar situation

Last year the game was Jan 3 and Team USA game was the 2nd I believe. Plus we had strength at forward. With Grizz hurt, I'm pretty sure they'll all see ice time on Thursday. Especially Hickey since Canada was eliminated earlier than the US and Sweden.

Hmm, I'd rather see Ryan playing on Thursday. He didn't get a whole lot of ice time in this tournament save for perhaps today's game. Teddy could put him on the third or fourth line or spot him on the PP. Would be worth it although I agree that we need him more against the Bobcats.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

Today is the 5 year anniversary of Tom Cavanagh's death. Such a great player and such a sad story.

Important to note that Quinn sat Eichel to give him a mental rest as much as a physical rest. He had been receiving a ton of media attention which peaked at the WJC and Quinn felt he needed a break.

Very true, there was also the story about Eichel's family facing various forms of harassment in Canada during the tournament. The part of the season leading up to the WJC, it was clear Jack was frustrated and had his head in a thousand places. He needed that game off to hit the reset button.
