Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

Re: Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

I was not able to follow the OT. Was it the shoulder for Kerfoot?

Online last night, Ken Schott said it looked like he was favoring his wrist.

On another note, still trying to decide if I want to road trip up to RPI or not for tonight.

Go! Love to get the recap.

I bet we will see Lackey tonight. Wonder how the lines evolve tonight, assuming no Kerfoot. Moy up to 1st line?

Settled on watching it on WRPI tonight, unfortunately. Rare weekend without grad school work or grading to do and I decided I didn't want to use it spending 6 hours in a car.

The announcers thought it was an upper body injury so who knows. Someone else indicated it was a wrist. Whatever, it didn't sound good.

Malone took his spot and I imagine if Alexander can't suit up tonight, Sean will center the first line. We can't get to break fast enough.

Madsen remains in net. Moy centering top line. Ellis playing 4th line.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

Thoughts from the game:
- Amazing that Harvard can out-possess RPI and have 2 PPs all night. Joke.
- Most of Harvard's penalties were unnecessary and selfish. A big delta from this team compared to last year's team is their propensity to take unnecessary penalties. This was the single reason they walked out of Union with a tie instead of a win
- Harvard was gassed in the 3rd and OT which is why you saw RPI start to control play. Did Donato stop rolling 4 lines?
- Face-offs need significant improvement. Harvard is a puck possession team that is so much tougher to play against when they win the puck off the draw
- Let's hope the Kerfoot and Blackwell injuries are not serious. Blackwell has already been out 3 weeks. The good thing about this 3.5 week break is that perhaps these guys can get healthy.

Agree about the penalties. We are not as disciplined as last year's team. Need to step up in this area.
We are losing more draws than we win for sure. Not every game but it seemed like we didn't have the possession time this weekend.
Totally gassed in the latter part of the third and OT. You could see it - our legs were not there and mentally, we made some stupid mistakes that gave RPI quality chances. Fourth line was used sparingly if at all in the third and OT. Injuries to Blackwell and Kerfoot played a role but our depth players need to step up and play better. It can't just be the first line every game.
Here's hoping the team is healthy come January. We really need this break to correct mistakes and get on the same page.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

We went to both games; I thought they played better against RPI than against Union, which was a very choppy game, but as with most of this season, they play better early and always look tired at the end of games. Kerfoot's injury looked to us like a wrist injury, he was holding his arm up with his other arm when he went off the ice. The Union player covering him tried get the referees attention when Kerfoot was down on the ice. Vesey took a bad slashing penalty in Union's end which ended in a PP goal for Union, but made a tremendous rush against RPI and hit the crossbar, which should have won the game for the Crimson. He seemed to float a lot against Union, looking for breaks. Madsen made a nice save on Union's penalty shot. Frustrating, as Harvard hasn't beaten Union in their last 11 games and had a quick 2 goal lead. These are fun rinks to visit although the lack of students on Friday made the arena very quiet. RPI had an unusual Indian dance after the first period behind the goal; first time I've seen anything like that at a hockey game but it was more interesting than dance cam.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

Congrats to Ryan Donato for being invited to the World Junior camp. I think he is a long shot to make the team, but what an honor.

Remember that Vesey was the 13th forward and ended up being a starter and playing a critical role in lifting the USA to gold.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

Donato makes first cut @ World Junior Camp and will head to Finland. Likely one more D and one more F to be cut so he is real close to making it. What an opportunity! Hitchcock from Yale is the only other ECAC player still left as well.

If he does make it, will he be back in time for the BU game on January 7th? We are hurting up front and while it is a great honor, we need him for the BU and Quinny games. Especially if the injured players don't make it back for those games.

Jan. 5th is the Bronze & Gold Medal day. I would think a couple of days off would be in the cards when he gets back.....if the US is playing that day that is.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

BU has worse problems with 4 players on 3 teams including 3 defenseman.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

Not to mention the defection of a forward to the Q and a serious injury to our top forward.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

Donato makes World Junors. Heck of an accomplishment!

Re: Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

So 2 days until Ferris St.

Questions are:
1). Blackwell and Kerfoot health
2). Who takes Donato's place on 2nd line and PP?
3). Harvard has not had success at this tournament in the past, but should be favorites to win though could require beating Minny on its home ice.
