Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

Re: Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

Wholeheartedly agree and thank you for mentioning the ceremony. Forgot to do so in my wrap of the game. I'm guessing that at least 60-70% of the people who attended the game don't even know who he is. Which is sad. I have some great memories of Coach when I was an undergrad and I'm sure others who attended the game have similar memories. But you're right, DanceCam and shooting pucks at an empty net seem to be 'the thing' these days.

I concur with you and CrimsonFaced. I always was in awe of the Cleary brothers. Their parents were family friends and I recall meeting them with their parents in 1960 shortly after the Squaw Valley Games. I was 13 and totally awestruck. Helen Cleary was a regular at Harvard Games when Bill was coach (and a knowledgable hockey mum). I think she passed away in 1995 04 1996 but I know she was around for my mum's funeral in '94.

I also share your feelings about DanceCam, Chckapuck and the other nonsense that has been introduced. I see no need for the loud (and crappy) music that is played. I wish they would bring back the band at all games. It might get students more involved.

I'm still thinking about going down to Quin this Friday for the game. Any ideas how long it will take from Boston/when I should leave for Friday traffic?

I tried the trip up from NY for a US Soccer game in Hartford on a Friday night. I didn't even make it past New Haven by 7pm. I hate the Merritt. By that experience, I'd suggest an early start on Thursday. :D

Not wanting a repeat of that fun, esp. on Friday the 13th, I'll probably go to Princeton on Saturday night instead.

Edit: Aargh, never mind, who would have expected THAT game to sell out.

I was afraid of this type of answer. I could maybe head out of work around 3... I have tickets to BU vs Providence on Saturday, hard to turn down an opportunity to watch BU lose :)

I'm assuming you have tickets to this game. It should be standing room only and with both the Bobcats and Harvard being undefeated, I'm guessing it will be a sellout or close to it. Would hate for you to drive all the way down and not get in.

There were single tickets left that I was looking at, I realized I should just head to BC Michigan state instead, much easier.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2015-2016 - All things Bright and Beautiful

Well that was an embarassing performance. If I had to summarize:
1) Too much "me" playing (on the PP especially which is why they could not enter the zone)
2) No grit and energy (No one hitting)
3) Defense getting exposed (first two goals on brutal and careless turnovers by Anderson and Sherman)
4) Coaching (Did not see Harvard adjust on the PP or elsewhere when Q seemed to have the answers. Need to be able to pivot and adjust mid-game)

This will be a game that they only learn from. They are not as good as they think they are.

I'm expecting a big rebound performance vs Princeton tomorrow night. Time will tell...

I was at the girls' game tonight at Bright and missed this game. From the last few minutes, the 'HRB kids said the team came out flat and disinterested which makes no sense to me. You're playing the #4 team in the country and you can't get up for the game?? Wow. A serious wake up call. Hopefully, they will turn it around tomorrow.

Noticed in the box score that Colin Blackwell did not dress? Is this true? Hope this isn't serious.

Okay, so last night was better. Still a bit concerned about the team's performance so far. Any update on Blackwell?

Not sure on Blackwell.

The team does not skate again until Nov 27th (against Notre Dame on the road). If he is not playing then, then we know it's something more serious.

While I don't like 2 weeks off between contests, I think this break comes at a good time and a chance to fine-tune and re-focus.

A couple of things:
1) More flexibility with the PP, especially with entering the zone against a trap.
2) I'd like to see more of the 4th line. I don't expect them to core with the 1st line, but I don't see a real sense of chemistry/flow with that line.
3) We still have not seen Victor Dombrovisky. He was a solid recruit, and I'd like to see him get some looks, especially given some of the miscues we have suffered defensively.
4) I have not looked at the stats, but something tells me that we have not done well in face-offs. For a puck possession team like Harvard, this is a very important statistic

Here’s another thought on where Vesey might go after the season. It’s from Bob McKenzie. I pee-ed laughing at one of these quotes by an NHL GM..... As one NHL GM (not Poile, by the way) said: “You try to do right by kids in college and let them stay there to develop but if you don’t sign them before their senior year, you run the risk of losing them.”..... (Scroll to bottom for the Vesey story) http://www.tsn.ca/what-s-holding-up-kopitar-s-new-contract-1.399719

Honestly I'd bet money on him going to Nashville at this point. They'll have from (hopefully late April) the end of the college season until August to sign him. Even more of a reason for him to sign? He might be able to get into a game or two, and while I don't know the eligibility requirements for the NA U-23 World Cup team, have to imagine playing in the NHL one or two games could get him on that roster. That won't happen if he sits until August.

Happy belated Thanksgiving to the faithful. Here's to two Ws in South Bend!
