Well at least he was being honest about who he is at the moment. But yeah, how Harvard ever considered this kid is beyond me.

Harvard's offense is horrible. 3rd line is better than many team's 1st lines.

So here is what we learned last night:
1) We have Colin Blackwell for the entire year. It was rumored that he might only play the 2nd half. This is huge and fingers crossed that he stays healthy.
2) The depth of forward is unreal. Harvard has some guys (Zielonka, Ellis,etc) who sat last night that have proven themselves in big spots. Also great to see the frosh (Donato, Floodstrand, and Olson) get the starts. Practices will be very competitive since playing time will be at a premium
3) The PP is lethal. Teams are going to have to think very hard about taking penalties against this Harvard team or pay the price.
4) Not sure what Dartmouth is made of, but great to see Madsen and the D (relatively unproven) post a shutout in their first spot

Tonight:
1) Let's hope we emerged unscathed from last night on the injury front
2) Will be interesting to see if some other folks get a look - Zieolonka, Caffrey, Gozzo, Zerter-Gossage, Lackey, Dumbrovsky, etc

Beyond:
1) Does a goalie earn the #1 status. Donato has talked about a rotation early

I certainly wasn't expecting a blowtorching in someone else's rink in Game #1 but wow, what a performance. And for Madsen to pitch a shutout on the road in his first collegiate start is something else. As you point out, we had guys sitting that could start for other teams. When was the last time that happened?

I'm glad Blackie gets to play the whole season and hopeful that he stays healthy. The PP is lethal and teams will pay dearly (hello Cornell and RPI) for taking stupid penalties.

I'm expecting Lackey to get his fair share of starts. Neither goalie has any experience to speak of on this level so why not find out early. It worked when we had Allain Roy and Chuckie Hughes manning the pipes.

And speaking of that '89 team (and I know that this is an unfair comparison) but doesn't the Vesey line remind people of the MacDonald-Bourbeau-CJ Young trio? It just seems uncanny how the three of them work so well together. Fun to watch.

What happened to Guiltanan? Did he leave school? Quit the program? He isn't listed on the roster.

Bad news, we only had 2 SOGs this 2nd period. Good news, they both were goals. 4-2 good guys going into the 3rd.

Some random thoughts after watching last night's game at B-L:

1. Victor Newell looks like the player he was two years ago. I don't know what happened but he is skating with confidence and making good decisions with the puck. His shot is hard and accurate and well, he just looks great. He and Olson make a nice second pairing.

2. The team as a whole looks quicker and faster than last year's edition if that's possible. Their breakouts for the most part left Dartmouth chasing them for most of the night. We are going to wear teams out with our depth.

3. Don't be fooled by the shot totals. We were in control last night the whole way. Madsen was okay in goal - probably should have had the second goal. And if we had converted some of our glorious close in chances, it would have been 7-2. Seriously, we were never threatened.

4. Every Harvard-Dartmouth game seems to have one Bob Gaudet 'moment' where he loses his mind and goes on a tirade. Last night, it happened after Victor Newell's PP goal when it appeared that Kyle Criscuolo interfered with Grant, the Dartmouth netminder. Criscuolo did hit their goalie but only after the puck had entered the net. Still, it's always good theatre to see Gaudet lose it.

5. I was surprised at Harvard's physicality. I mean when Alexander Kerfoot is hitting people you know the team is committed to take the body. Still, we lost a few battles along the boards especially in the offensive end. We would have had more sustained offensive pressure if we had won some of those battles.

6. Madsen is okay. He moves well enough but looked a little unsure at times. Would like to see Lackey for comparison.

As bothman says, bring on Yale!

I don't really care what UNB did or didn't do against those other teams. I care about Harvard building momentum during the regular season and getting to the playoffs healthy and ready to make a run for the Frozen Four.

Games in October can ruin your PWR if you lose especially OOC. Better think again on that one !

I can guarantee a tie against New Brunswick does nothing to hurt our PWR. And with the exception of the 7-0 thrashing of Dartmouth, that was our only game in October.

Donato had a ton of minutes last night. His stick handling and tight circles were really impressive. He skated into two defenders a couple times instead of passing, but I'm getting nitpicky here. The fact that after our second line we still have Esposito and Moy is ridiculous. Going to be an exciting season, especially if they roll out 5 forwards on the PP against ranked teams.

Was at both games this weekend rooting for the other team. Very impressed with Harvard - great puck movement on the power play. Agree that they look even faster than last year (especially the first two lines). Dartmouth put up more of a fight on Sunday, but agree that even though shots were equal, Harvard was in total control. Good luck the rest of the way.

Seriously? You do know that the NB game was an exhibition. And exhibitions don't count for PWR.

Agree on all counts. Ryan needs more seasoning but you can see the hockey pedigree. He even looks like his dad when Teddy was lacing them up for the Crimson. Nice shot, great moves and an awareness of what's in front of him. Will be fun to see him develop into an all Ivy, all ECAC forward.

Thanks. We've had such a drought that watching this level of skill is such a treat. Vesey has raised his game and is developing as a leader. Kerfoot looks stronger and more confident with and without the puck. The way the team sees each other in tight spaces is something to behold. Although I will say that there were times when it looked like we were bored last night. No disrespect to Dartmouth but after Saturday night, I think the team knew that they were going to win last night. Just a matter of the final score.

Thanks BigGreen - A good observation on the power play. Not quite like the crisp clean passing machine on power play that we saw when Bill Cleary was coaching but they are getting there. It was nice to see.
