Harvard Crimson 2014-2015: Restoring the Karma

Re: Harvard Crimson 2014-2015: Restoring the Karma

Why not? We've judged seasons on the first 14 games before. It is half a season. Even still at our best we've played some of our best hockey in a very long time.

You missed my point. I'm agreeing with you. The first half was glorious and should not be discounted when looking back at what the team accomplished this year. It is a major step forward for the program and hopefully, we can keep it going for a few more games and carry forward the momentum into next season.

Yes, $15.00

Actually it's $7 dollars after 5pm for athletic events at the B-School. Three dollars less than parking near the rink and much easier to get out after the game.

I will say that parking has been a disaster since the end of January. Yes the weather has been brutal for all concerned in many facets of our every day life but Harvard has plenty of space to dump the snow and could have done a better job of clearing the lots in the athletic complex. And why, for pete's sake, didn't they reschedule some of these events instead of piling them together knowing that they have a parking issue?

I'm just going to park near the Square and walk. I'll brave the cold for at least one more weekend.

In today's Boston Herald, there is a nice article on Jimmy Vesey. The kid has studied Mandarin since high school and has volunteered in Boston public schools in addition to his studies and hockey. Last summer, he and his teammates stuck around to work out together and Vesey admitted that it was a great bonding experience. I don't want to read too much into the article but I'm hoping that because academics seem to be a priority for him, that he will stick around for his senior season.

I may not have written my point correctly. We've judged seasons as bad because we've had a bad first half and then a decent second half of the season. This season we've had a good 1st half and a relatively terrible finish and at the end of the day, I don't think it was that different from our past six or seven seasons just because the 1st half was the best hockey we've played in a long time. The play might have been better but I still rate this season under the 2011-12 season where we earned a bye and won a game in the Beanpot.

You also almost won the Whitelaw.

Has Bright been renovated in the past couple years? I last came here in 2013, and it seems MUCH, much nicer this time.

Great start to the playoffs tonight with one big downer. Alexander Kerfoot hurt his shoulder and it looks bad. He was in a sling and I'm guessing that the way he went down and had to be helped off that his season is over. Just when you thought we were over the injury bug, we get hit again. Oh well...

Now for the better news. Colin Blackwell got his first two goals of the season and his first goals in over two years. Last goal for Blackwell was in January of 2013 vs. BU. Good to see him motoring out there and he is really finding his legs. This can only help us going forward especially with Kerfoot's injury.

Game was pretty much decided early in the second when Brian Hart fed Jimmy Vesey out front for a wrister that beat Ernst. Then Jake Horton jammed a shot at the post off a feed from Sean Malone as Harvard was changing up to make it 4-0 and that was all she wrote. Brown decided to get physical from that point on and the refs allowed the game to get out of hand especially late in the third when a scrum took place with a little over a minute left. Brown took some cheap shots at Harvard, particularly Blackwell, Esposito and Malone. Frustration I suppose from getting blown out once again.

Phil Zielonka must be hurt as well because Mike Seward dressed in his place. If he can't play tomorrow, then I imagine Tommy O'Regan gets the call but who knows. It's just a shame that Alexander got hurt again. You have to wonder if this might be career ending. He was crumpled on the ice and it a lot of pain.

Time to be positive though. Team played very well tonight with a few defensive lapses but nothing major. Michalek had a relatively easy evening and our passing was crisp. Breakouts were mostly clean. Brown just doesn't have the talent or speed to stay with us.

Yes, the rink is now known as the Bright-Landry Center. The Landry family made a substantial gift and you saw the result tonight. The renovations include new locker rooms and updated facilities for the players and coaches including technology. The teams and coaches really love it.

I get it. I'd still wait to see how we fare in the playoffs. Despite Kerfoot's injury tonight, we have enough depth to get to the next round. No doubt 2012 was exciting and that series with Yale was immense. I wouldn't mind a repeat of that series this year.

Yes. EVERYONE was next door at the basketball game. There might have been as many Brown fans as Harvard fans, and there weren't that many Brown fans.

Respectfully disagree. Attendance was low but 553 is too low for what I saw last night. Closer to 900 or 1000.

Attendance at all four games was awful. Almost insulting. But an official attendance of 553 is mind boggling.

There was a lot of hype for the men's b-ball game against Yale and it is understandable given what was on the line. But when you think about how we drew over 2000 fans for a weeknight game between Christmas and New Years when the students were off campus, it makes you wonder what's going on. Can't the University pump up the fact that we are in the first round of the playoffs at home?? Heck women's lacrosse will probably draw more fans today than the game tonight. Sad really.

I know the uptick in ticket prices has an effect on the playoff game attendance at Appleton. Students don't get in free for the playoffs either. I don't know what ticket prices are at Harvard games or if their students get in free normally, but this could have an effect on things as well.

Another Ivy school announced that they were subsidizing the costs for student playoff tickets. Harvard could have done the same.
