Awesome. Talk about some depth at Center! Jaw appears to be back as well.

Anyone know if this is on radio? If so what station. 95.3 WHRB seems to be playing classical music! UGH!

No idea. WHRB Sports got really hosed by the postponement.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

They have it now. All good.

In that case, probably the lack of red line and traffic. Glad for them they were able to get it on. There was some fear they wouldn't be able to redo the schedule. Instead they get an exciting double header.

Update: The WHRB crew apparently walked 2 miles in the slush.

Meanwhile, I'm in NYC dying. 0 shots in the last 18 minutes and counting.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Sorry guys - wanted you to win. But way to fight in a tough situation. And I'm guessing this is just the kind of performance that Michalek needed, so maybe that'll carry over to the rest of the league season.

Tough to stomach that loss, but there were a lot of positives to take from that game. I didn't see a lot of Malone late in the game and that is my biggest concern.

Me too. I'm wondering if he got hurt again. Cripes, haven't we have enough pain over the past few seasons?

This one is going to hurt for a while especially where Northeastern beat BC and I think we could have taken them. But if we take off our Crimson colored lens for a moment, we have to see that BU really took it to us after we got the 3-1 lead. They were relentless with their pressure. Were it not for Brayden Jaw's miraculous save along with about half a dozen gems from Michalek, the game would have ended sooner. They dominated us for the second half of the game. We just couldn't generate consistent pressure although Tyler Moy is going to have nightmares about the missed breakaway in the first OT.

It wasn't our skating that betrayed us. We are just not as physical as BU and it caught up to us last night. We wore down as the game went along and you could see it in our legs and faces. Our speed is just as good as BU if not better. But we can't match their physicality.

Hope that Malone is okay. We REALLY miss McNally on the back line. He could have been a difference maker last night. But there is no use crying about it. I'm just not sure we're going to get a bye for the first round and that could hurt us. When we are healthy and playing our system, we are a very, very good team.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Brutal outcome in what was a fantastic game to watch. Exciting, high quality hockey. This team represented Harvard and the ECAC with pure class. A couple of things to ponder:
1). It doesn't get any easier with the House of Horrors (Tge Whale) on Friday night. I hope Harvard's legs hold up.
2). That game has to give Michalek a ton of confidence given the magnitude of the game and the stage.
3). Great to see Kerfoot and Malone back and the undeniable boost they provide. I did not see Makone on ice for most of the OTs and I pray he did not have a setback
4). Be interesting to see what Donato does with first line center (kerfoot vs moy)
5). I really wonder if Vesey comes back. I think he could be a 2nd or 3rd line wing right now in the NHL. If he comes back, Harvard's forwards could be the most dynamic in the nation. They graduate no one.

Hats off to BU on a really well played game. They deserved the win.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Uh oh, our Princeton tickets are in Section 16 on the glass directly behind the Harvard bench, and we have sat there before. How can we get hurt there? Unless I am misunderstanding the geometry of your caution, I'm not sure I see how a puck can get to those on the glass seats without taking a high tumbling arc, or perhaps hitting off the ceiling. My front row puck catches have all been of the one handed high lob variety. As a rule, I don't think they "put these families there" so much as families just choose their own seats like everyone else.

Obviously, in the first row you are not in danger of being hit by a puck. I am talking about kids hanging onto the glass behind the bench while the game is going on. I don't want to see a kid get hurt.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

It must have been tough for Kerfoot, Malone, Jaw coming back after being out for so long and playing a double overtime game. Good effort by the Crimson, like Skate79 said, BU deserved the win, they were the better team. No shame though in taking the number 2 team in the country to double overtime, and Michalek was outstanding.

Echo this. Great effort and, while it didn't fall in the win column as all your ECAC brothers and sisters hoped, there is no shame in that kind of result. Harvard gave them all they could handle, and while it looks like they ran out of gas, they showed their skill and speed. Plus, beating BC will almost be as gratifying as winning the Beanpot.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Additional thoughts on last night:

1. Michalek looked like he got hurt after making that sensational save with his left skate in the first OT. Not sure if it was cramps but something to keep an eye on going forward.

2. Mentally, this may be a big hurdle for the team to overcome. Fortunately, they don't have time to dwell on it as Yale is right around the corner. Time to stick it to the Eli.

3. I think Vesey will return if only because he sees that the program has turned the corner. If we were mired in another losing season, I think he would bolt after this year. But given that he is so close to earning a degree, I think he'll finish. Maybe that's the optimist in me but I just have this feeling he will want to give it another shot.

4. McNally's loss is a killer. We just aren't the same without him and the other D have to step up their game. This may be an opportunity for Guiltanan. We'll see...

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

The Crimson are certainly an exciting team to watch. They can go head to head with some of the best teams in the country when many of their key players are available. Then they can be stymied by some pretty average ECAC opponents. Never a dull moment. It was great particularly to see Kerfoot and Malone get right back in there. While it was tough to watch at times in the overtime periods, Harvard often resorting to clearing/icing as if they were on penalty kill, they were in fact occasionally still getting some good chance like the Moy breakaway. Michalek had his work cut out for him and he really rose to the occasion. The game recap in the Crimson went on and on about the great performance by the JUNIOR goaltender. If only.

By my recollection, Harvard hockey players that have left early have not gone on to greener pastures. The most recent example is Louis Leblanc who I think will likely regret his decision for the rest of his life.

Although Vesey is a much more polished product than Leblanc was and has a body more capable of handling the rigor of the NHL, my gut tells me he stays.

In my mind, the only way he goes is if Nashville has an immediate need at wing where Vesey could step right in and play wing on one of the top 3 lines. I don't know Nashville well enough to assess that situation.

If Vesey comes back, he gets his degree, would be a favorite for the Hobey, and could help Harvard play for a national title. That certainly sounds better than the AHL to me.

The decision lies almost exclusively with Nashville. If they want him they need to sign him this summer and make it lucrative
If he returns just needs to wait till August of next year and becomes a free agent (See Hayes of BC last year)

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Wonder if Leblanc could reapply for his final three years and eventually get his degree, an ex-NHL greybeard undergraduate like Gordie Kluzak was?
