Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Both, did McNally get tossed? I know Anderson and Zielonka got the gate. Did McNally go as well? If they are suspended, hopefully it is for the Red Stars game although I have a feeling that won't be the case. Here's hoping they don't get punished.

My bad. It was Anderson. Both got game misconducts, but I don't think that causes one to miss a game. Think it's only a DQ, but could be wrong.

Anybody know?

if they call it a game dq you sit the next game. a game misconduct just means you miss the rest of the night.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

A scheduling quirk for the Crimson as we head into Christmas break. They play the Red Stars in that exhibition on the 28th and return to league play against RPI at Bright-Landry on the 30th. Then they are off until the Rivalry on Ice game against Yale on January 10th. Wish we had another game in there somewhere against maybe a HE team prior to the 10th. Like Vermont? Two former Harvard players and teammates coaching against each other? Nice storyline if nothing else.

One thing I will say is that all these road games especially against top competition can only help the squad prepare for the second half of the season. How often does a team go unbeaten on the road playing ranked teams in the first half of their schedule? Just another impressive stat in this magic carpet ride of a season.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

- are they getting a rep as a less than clean team? What's with the extracurricular stuff? They have too much skill for that.
The hit happened right in front of me. It was absolutely a penalty. Questionable on the misconduct, they throw people out of games too easily in the third. I think the frustration set in for Q and they wern't okay with the hit as it was the second unnecessary hit. There was an earlier hit on a Q defenseman that was from behind into the boards. It was your typical scuffle after a penalty for the most part.

I'm not questioning the penalty. I'm wondering what provoked it because we aren't that kind of team. The announcers on the broadcast made it a point to say that Anderson and Zielonka had enough of whatever Q was doing to the Crimson and obviously they got kicked from the game. But you just don't see that with our team and that's what prompted my question.

I was watching via the Web TV, but to me, the hit was not into the boards, but alongside. Hence I thought it was a borderline penalty, but the Misconduct was a joke.

It was a bit more than a typical scuffle after the whistle. Closed fists, grabbing facemasks, throwing guys to the ice... it got a little rough there for a minute (both ways). Obviously, the Bobcats were frustrated at that point but I don't think we were getting chippy. We had been physical all game as were the Crimson. I think a lot of that scuffle had to do with the officiating during the game. Too many things were let go while stupid, borderline calls were made.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Poor sports. Western Canadian Jr mentality
Harvard was light years better

I don't think we were light years better. Quinny's forwards are very good but their D is suspect at best. Too many turnovers and poor positioning (I'm thinking Zielonka's goal) led to Harvard opportunities and eventually goals. You can ***** and moan about the officiating but both teams had to deal with it.

I saw Chip McDonald was one of the officials so I'm not all that surprised by any of this.

Re: Harvard Crimson 2013-2014

Has anyone seen a legitimate, actually looks like an on-ice Harvard hockey jersey for sale anywhere? I have the COOP one that's in the same neighborhood and I refuse to get the Fanatics monstrosity the athletic dept. sells on their site. If not, does anyone know why not? While I hate to use them as an example, Cornell sells both the Fanatic monstrosities but also real jerseys that looks like things their teams wear.

Vermont usually has Yale at that time (this year at Yale). Also UVM is loaded with road games so it would have to be at UVM. So far 10 road and 5 at home. That said it would be a good match up this year. Fun to see.

Many of the ECAC Hockey Jerseys, including Harvard, Yale, Union, Dartmouth, etc. are made by Gemini Athletic

Based on the contract they have with each school, they may be able to sell directly to you or with permission from the school. They usually cannot include the players names. The construction of these Jerseys is, I believe, different then what you might find at the COOP, especially the stitching, weight of the fabric and ability to withstand many industrial machine washings. If Gemini cannot sell them to you directly, they may be able to give you a contact at Harvard who can help.

I wasn't making excuses since you're right... both teams have to deal with it. My point is that the quality of ECAC officiating is terrible at best and isn't fair at all to the kids on the ice. Nobody ever knows what to expect.

It should really be easier than that from Harvard's end, but thanks for the info.

Agree Mark. It keeps getting worse every year. I know you guys had to deal with some blow back from the Cornell game involving Peca. I'm not citing that incident specifically but it hurts the quality of the product when officials are inconsistent or worse, incompetent. Or both.

We've played twice as many roadies as home games this season so any possibility of a game would have to be at B-L. The Rivalry on Ice game is more of a home game for Yale than a neutral site game.
