Enduring a season of away-game announcers more than rewarded by Brown's Mike Rubin. "God this game is slow," in the first period; "Ugh!" in the second; "Thank God!" in the third when Brown scores its first goal in 260+ minutes, all while following the play and knowing the players. A lot of bands have been criticized off air, but he found the Brown band (I know, it really could be any band at a hockey game) "astonishingly bad in situational play" (or words to that effect). Also, he didn't want a goal review to last too long since he'd miss his gig at the women's hoops game. It may be a schtick, but it's a good one, and he actually calls and enjoys the game! Wonder when he hits free-agency . . .

A tip of the cap to the women for winning the Ivy League championship. OUTRIGHT. And thanks to Princeton for helping out yesterday.

Looking at yesterday's box score, one thing still bothers me about this team. Too many penalties. In no particular order, too many men on the ice, cross checking, hitting after the whistle (the last two belonging to Marisa Gedman - she had three total for six minutes yesterday). This team can't afford to spend time in the box given that they are goal challenged as a team. Taking seven penalties against a team like Brown? Really? Better discipline and focus are needed for next weekend.

This may be a program first; neither the women nor the men managed a win against their Yale counterparts during the regular season. The women may see Yale next week at Bright-Landry so we might have an opportunity to change that but what does it say about the state of Harvard hockey that all of a sudden, we can't beat our rivals? Pretty sad actually.

I think Yale it will be and presumably Staenz will be back. She adds a major dimension of speed and skill to the Bull Dogs.

in my opinion, Harvard-Yale will be the only ECAC playoff matchup worth watching. Not to say that QPAC SLU won't be a good and exciting matchup as well, but lets face it, we see them play each other every year! I can't even imagine Cornell and Clarkson not dominating their opponents. I am sure Harvard will also draw the largest turnout, unlike any of the other match ups, speaking from past quarters games I have attended.

perhaps harvard just appears to have a larger crowd since the arena is smaller? always a great atmosphere for harvard yale, but I'm sure even though cornell will draw a large crowd it will not be as exciting as the other match ups.

Agree completely about penalties. As for the Ivy League thing, I think it's a bit overblown and that the women would gladly trade it in for a win over BC, with or without the pot!

I don't think Dartmouth-Clarkson will be a blow out series. Dartmouth was only down by 1 goal entering period 3 of both games with Clarkson this season. Game 1 they end up losing 3-0 including an ENG. In game 2 they are only down 2-1 (Clarkson gets 2 PP Goals) but do give up 4 goals (1 PP) and lose 6-1. Clarkson of late has been giving up goals in the third period (Quinny, Prinny and Union) so I think Dartmouth can stay out of the penalty box and keep it a 1 goal game going into period 3, then anything may happen.

You ever been in Ithaca ?. They have one of the best bands in the League. They are at Lynah most times I've been there. Never seen a band at Harvard the times I visited that barn.

Cornell just lost to Princeton, and they meet again this coming weekend. Both Harvard - Yale and Cornell - Princeton are Ivy Matchups, and in both cases, the road team has had the home teams number this year. Fairly certain there will be a good atmosphere, and a good chance that the games will be exciting. More often than not, the first game in a play-off series can be well, unpredictable.

Cornell is playing Princeton and they haven't dominated them all season. First game Cornell won 5-4 and second match up Princeton won 4-3 so I think it will be a good series.

No question beating BC is paramount but winning the Ivy League does mean something. If it didn't, then why have the League in the first place?

The Harvard band has been coming to women's games since the '02-03 season - actually maybe before that season. They play at more women's games then men if you can believe it. I fully expect them to be there on Friday night because the men's hockey team and basketball team are out of town. And it's Yale.

Playoffs always generate some unpredictable results and great games. I'm just hoping we can finally hang a couple of W's on Yale this season. Frustrating as all get out that we haven't beaten them this year.

Smaller than what other arenas? Conte Forum, yes. Agganis, yes. In the Ivies, Dartmouth, Cornell and Harvard have the three largest seating capacities. So I'm not sure of your comparison.

He really was candid, and funny. The Brown band truly deserved his scorn: his "situational play" comment referred to the band's once having continued to play the end of its song while a Brown player went in on a penalty shot. And he chided them when they began chanting "sieve" at Laing, a goalie with an 0.44 GPA: "she's saved 97 shots this year and let in two...she may be many things, but she's not a sieve."

Next weekend and at the moment, that it's for the championship isn't guaranteed. Yale has to go through Princeton and Penn on the road this weekend and even if they win both, a win over Harvard will just cause an Ivy playoff at a neutral site TBD.

Well, from the 14-15 commitments thread, Harvard replaced the D for next year who decommited from them and went to Cornell. Perhaps this is the missing piece some of you were looking for to explain why the decomitted player was asked to do a post-grad year....gonna be a fair number of players sitting in the stands next season at Harvard...5 or so?

We get it. For some reason you have a bone to pick with Harvard and posted about this subject numerous times, including twice today in separate threads. You have also made disparaging comments about several other Ivy schools in your postings. There have been "Commitment Changes" in the past with HE schools as well. This is not unique to Ivies. Having said that, the academic standards and regulations for admittance are much stricter at an Ivy than at most other D1 schools. I suspect that it takes a lot more extra home work by the coaching staffs to get a recruit into an Ivy school.
