Happy Belated Birthday Ralph Baer!!!

Re: Happy Belated Birthday Ralph Baer!!!

Your birthdays are coming quicker and quicker all the time!

Yeah, that's a softball I'm not willing to hit, because really, it's Ralph's Birthday Thread!!!

Happy Birthday Ralph!!! Did you have a birthday cake? If so, was it chocolate?? I remember one year for my birthday, my mother asked me what kind of cake I wanted (she was having the family over and was going to make a cake for me) and I said "Did you just meet me?? Uh, chocolate. Hello??" And she says "OK, I'm going to make a marble cake. [your nieces] like marble cake. Um, what??? MY birthday!! My cake!! Screw the kids!!! :) I hope you got the kind of cake you wanted. :)

Re: Happy Belated Birthday Ralph Baer!!!

I'm told that Euclid wants to wish you a happy birthday, Ralph. Yes, it is quite late, but when you've been dead as long as he has been, time tends to lose some of its meaning.

Re: Happy Belated Birthday Ralph Baer!!!

Happy belated birthday Ralph. Or if you don't want belated, you could wish Cary Grant a happy one. But seeing as how he is dead, that might be a little bit late as well. Well, Kevin Costner then (only his acting is dead.) And if you want hockey related, then how about, happy birthday to Mark Messier.

Raise a glass to the elder statesman of USCHO!

Happy birthday, Ralph.

Here's to the next 100,000 posts!

Let's go with Mark Messier. :D

Today's birthdays allow us to note that Ralph shares a birth month with Robert E. Lee, Edgar Allen Poe, and Janis Joplin. As far as people who are still around to celebrate with Ralph, the list includes Dolly Parton and Junior Seau.

For the first time in 60 years, the mystery man didn't leave a bottle of cognac and a rose on Poe's grave.

Okay. So we all watch sporting events, and I know if you think about it, that's pretty nonsensical. Especially because we can become so elated or bummed out by the outcome. But this...
"I'm very disappointed, to the point where I want to cry," said Cynthia Pelayo, 29, who had stood riveted to her prime viewing spot at the gate for about six hours.
I guess I don't get staying up all night to witness something as intense as a mystery person visiting a grave. The guy not showing up might be the best thing that ever happened to these folks. Now they can go on with their lives and obsess over games involving college students like "normal" people do.:p

ARM,

Hasn't Linus had a similar reaction when the Great Pumpkin didn't arrive?

Yes, he has. But Linus isn't 29. And I think he was really just trying to put the moves on Sally, and he sure wasn't the first guy to be left feeling down in the dumps after a night out with a girl.:(

Re: Happy Belated Birthday Ralph Baer!!!

I'm a little belated for Jan. 20 birthdays, but I found it "verrry interrresting" that it was Arte Johnson's birthday, as well as "God" himself, George Burns, and even Mrs. ARM's sister.

As for today, Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon and Jack Nicklaus top the list of sports figures, don't any of you babies go getting hooked on Mac Davis, and Stonewall Jackson would have turned a spry 186 today had he not been killed by friendly fire at Chancellorsville.

I think Linus was a little more interested in piano, if you catch my drift.

Re: Happy Belated Birthday Ralph Baer!!!

FYP. Schroeder was the piano player and Lucy was the one who had the hots for him.

And Sally had the hots for Linus, who was only interested in his blanket.

I think the original metaphor has been cut to shreds, :p

Re: Happy Belated Birthday Ralph Baer!!!

I don't know of any "Peanuts" tie in, but Sam Cooke and Diane Lane were both born on this date. Coincidentally, so were Bill Bixby and a USCHO poster named The Incredible Gulk.

Re: Happy Belated Birthday Ralph Baer!!!

It's starting to look more and more like I'm going to have to get this thread closed by myself, in which case, I'll have to talk about more than just birthdays. But as for today ...

Katharine Ross turns 68 today; wow, it seems like just yesterday that she was graduating, or going on a date with a graduate, or having raindrops fall on her head, or skipping out of her own wedding only to become a Stepford wife. We also have a US President in William McKinley and a famous birdwatcher (at least I'm assuming that's what he was, cuz he was always talking about little chickadees and he didn't appear to have any other talent) in W.C. Fields. Add in multiple gold medal winner Greg Louganis, Magnum P.I. himself Tom Selleck, Heather Graham, and owner of half the country Oprah Winfrey, and today is quite the day to be born. But I bet none of them can point to a message board where they have exceeded 104 thousand posts.
