Re: Guns For Everyone!: Another Mass Shooting!

Great idea, but what is to prevent a sociopath from modifying the magazine?

Nothing, but the average spree killer isn't that technically sound. Maybe we cut the daily mass shooting to once a week.

If a sociopath wants to mass murder, he's going to give it a go whether he uses explosives, a firearm, or something else.

Do we need a Patriot Act 2.0 to take away more freedoms to keep us safer?

It makes it significantly more difficult for them to obtain that capability... They need to machine parts and have the mechanical ability to do so. Also, modifying from stock would be illegal as well...

No one batted an eye when Tombstone and other frontier towns banned guns at the city limits. I think those predated the Patriot Act by a good 150 years.

True, but I think (hope) you would agree that overreaction is a hallmark of congressional crisis legislation.

I don't think we have to worry about overreaction here, joe.

What?

Next you're going to tell me that the romanticized look back upon this wild west era by Hollywood outlasted the actual wild west era by decades.

;)

I think it is. The US is a country that was one of the first to embrace our natural beauty that we have (look at the National Park system's founding).

Oh, please. Having just watched the Tour de France, there are still aqueducts and buildings standing from the time of the Romans. They still had farmland where animals roamed the hillside free, no fences, nothing.

There's nothing special about the US, nothing that makes us any better than a dozen other countries.

Well, nothing except our murder rate.

Re: Guns For Everyone!: Another Mass Shooting!

In that case, no thanks. I hate gore porn. I stopped watching Hostel about an hour in.

The only theoretically "gore porn" movie I've ever seen worth anything was Saw, because it had a great premise (and great writing -- fight me!). But I get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine. I want psychological torture.

From what I remember of it, it's so over the top (think Kill Bill) it's not real. Hostel/Saw (from what I've heard) appears VERY real. And DX is the guy who kinda freaked when he heard taser sounds and a gunshot in downtown MPLS years ago, and the rest of us are simply saying, "Yeah, should probably go now. *shrug*" True story, ask bbdl/MNS. :)

Just stop. You tell the story completely wrong and use it to completely mischaracterize me in bizarre unrelated areas. In fact, most of what you said is a borderline lie.

You were not "ZOMG WE NEED TO LEAVE." And I never said that. You WERE a bit wide-eyed and asked, "You guys do this a lot?" "Yes." "What the f?" It was unfamiliar to you, so, not normal. That is the truth, period.

In a bizarro mirror world, first time I visited my college roommate's small town, he left the car running, and I reacted the same way. I was wide-eyed that someone would leave their car running for half hour and unattended like it was normal.

Re: Guns For Everyone!: Another Mass Shooting!

Specious argument. Getting 80% of the way there is better than doing nothing.

Basic logic that seems to be lost on most people these days. That mediocre Iran deal is infinitely better than what we are dealing with now.

Hell if someone had told the Palestinians this they would have had a full on state in 1995. If someone is offering you 99% of what you are asking for you sign before the sentence is over and be happy with it! Sadly Arafat/Palestinians = Trump/America.
