Gun Control 1: Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang

I'll own my mistake and misstatement: The good guy did not stop the ambush; he happened upon it after it commenced and may, per police, have stopped it from going to harm more than just that cop.

But my original fear, that the cops shot the good guy in the fog of chaos, reportedly has manifest.

But my original fear, that the cops shot the good guy in the fog of chaos, reportedly has manifest.

I had to sit through an active shooter training spell spiel by a cop at one point. He spent what felt like 20 minutes talking about how in that situation cops can't tell bad guys from good guys and so good guys should not be holding their weapons in their hands because cops will react as though they're the bad guys.

Yet when someone asked about guns being banned in public buildings, the cop immediately said, following a disclaimer that it was his own personal opinion, that he'd rather have good guys with guns around than not.

The cognitive dissonance between those two statements went unnoticed by him or his questioner.

... good guys should not be holding their weapons in their hands because cops will react as though they're the bad guys.

My conceal carry trainer made some good points in class:
- if you are the caller to 911, let them know who you are, you are armed, engaged, where you are, and what you are wearing
- as soon as cops get on scene, you're a target because you're holding a weapon -- so change that as soon as it's safe to
And as the good guy:
- follow their < bleep > orders to the letter
- expect to be cuffed until it's sorted out
- first word: "lawyer" (yes, even as good guy)

I have LEO friends; they hate me when I answer the door because I see them and say "Dude, two words: Warrant? Lawyer." <-- frankly, that's good advice in general.

This story takes a turn:

A golf pro at a suburban Atlanta country club was shot and killed on Saturday by a man who drove onto the golf course in a pickup truck bearing the bodies of two other men in the bed of the vehicle, the police said.

The golf pro was identified by several golf organizations as Gene Siller, who was in his 40s. One of the victims found dead in the truck’s bed was identified as Paul Pierson, who was the registered owner of the white RAM 3500 pickup truck, the Cobb County Police Department said in a statement on Sunday. The third victim has not been identified as of Sunday evening.

Both men found in the pickup truck’s bed had died of gunshot wounds, the police said.

150 people killed in 400 shootings over the July 4 weekend.

Remember, the guns are here for hunting and masturbating, not harming others.

But mah freedumbs!

Since stand your ground says you can murder somebody if you feel threatened, all gun owners should all immediately shoot anyone who pulls a gun in public.

Yes. I know. Game it out.

How dare he stop at a red light!!!!!!!

To be honest though those scooters are annoying...not THAT annoying though.

I propose a codicil to the John Waters adage "If you go home with somebody, and they don't have books, don't fuck them."

Money shot:

Keegan Casteel, 32, of Ankeny, Iowa, is charged with two felony counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, police said. Casteel owns an auto repair shop in Des Moines.

Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said a member of the cleaning staff at the W Chicago - Lakeshore "likely prevented a tragedy from happening" when he alerted authorities about firearms he found in a hotel room.

Casteel was held on $10,000 bond after briefly appearing in front of Cook County Judge David Navarro in bond court Tuesday afternoon. Prosecutors revealed that Casteel's room at the W Chicago - Lakeshore was on the 12th floor facing Ohio Street Beach. Prosecutors said Casteel's semi-automatic rifle had four magazines next to it and a live round in the chamber.

Casteel's girlfriend was also in the room, prosecutors said, and law enforcement sources tell the I-Team that their two children were also on the trip.

Police said they feared a "Las Vegas style shooting" after discovering more than a dozen weapons and 1,000+ rounds of ammo at a hotel near Coors Field Friday night

From the story:

Sources said police removed 16 long guns, body armor and more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition from the room with a balcony overlooking the downtown area. The sources said they feared the number of weapons, ammo, vantage point and large crowds could have resulted in a Las Vegas style shooting.

Based on the information provided by the hotel employee, police executed a search warrant and found the guns, ammo, body armor and a man inside the room on the eighth floor.

One of the suspects arrested Friday night had posted a message on Facebook referencing a recent divorce and saying he was going to “go out in a big way,” according to the multiple law enforcement sources.

Nuke the fucking 2nd. Thank God for the maid who called the cops...

BTW 3 of the 4 were previous offenders if I read the story correctly.

I thought the FBI was saying this had nothing to do with the baseball game, but was some sort of gun traffic ring?

The FBI said “We have no reason to believe this incident was connected to terrorism or a threat directed at the All-Star Game.” “We are not aware of any threat to the All-Star Game events, venues, players or the community at this time.”

Denver Police say “We don’t know what we don’t know.” “We need to identify exactly to the extent possible why individuals were here … and we don’t have those answers.”

And one of the men who was arrested posted on Facebook about wanting to “go out in a big way,” according to Denver7, which cited anonymous police sources.

So, it's a definite maybe.

I thought this was was just a drug sale.

You can tell they weren't conservatives because they didn't murder anyone or cry and beg.

Interesting.

I imagine pretty much every time someone is arrested in a hotel room with a cache of guns, Las Vegas will be brought up. As an interesting aside (at least for me, as a native North Dakotan) Three Affiliated Tribes out of North Dakota (conglomeration of three local Native American tribes in the state) took $12 million of their oil revenue and bought one of the empty lots across from Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, where the shooting occurred, as an investment.

Who are the Mandan, the Hidatsa, and the Arikara, Alex, excuse me, Jordy, excuse me LeVar? Sorry about that LeVar, let's close out ND Trivia for $1000.

That's my vote for Alex's replacement.
