Great Lakes Invitational?

How could we call it an invitational at that point.
I would like to see UM have to play State on alternating years in the first round so Tech could play the invited school as well.

Not sure UM and MSU would like another guaranteed game when they already play four or more times per season in the B1G.

Re: Great Lakes Invitational?

Agreed that it should be a national tournament, not a Michigan Tournament. I liked seeing the BC, RPI, etc or other eastern teams there, and think they should continue with it. I lose quite a bit of interest in the tourney if it is the Michigan Tournament every year. Ideally, Michigan State wouldn't even be permanent, but I think that ship has already sailed.

Re: Great Lakes Invitational?

But who is more likely to put butts in the seats? Northern or RPI? Western or BC? Those are the same reasons that State is a permanent invite to join the host Tech and the cash cow from Ann Arbor.

Judging from attendance this year RPI, BC or Dynamo Moscow couldn't put many fewer butts in seats.

I'd do GLI in all likelihood if Lowell went... Not in a baseball park though

Agreed 100% about the outdoor thing. So very overdone at this point. I wouldn't even go to a Winter Classic if it was the Wild playing at Target Field. The only outdoor hockey that interests me anymore is high school hockey, on a pond, for Hockey Day MN.

Re: Great Lakes Invitational?

The problem is oversaturation. It is just like all the bowl games. There are plenty of hockey games to choose from, and most universities have raised the prices. And now if I want to, as a WMU hockey fan I can choose between the GLI invitational or the Shilleagh Invitational or do neither because of the distance and the price.
Reserved seats were $52(2) plus gas and a meal. So I figured $100 for a night of college hockey! As a retiree in this economy, I cannot do it too often.

Re: Great Lakes Invitational?

Yep, they would, you betcha! When I was at Lakers/Broncos game couple years ago at Lawson, I was very impressed by the number of fans that traveled down from the Soo. And it wasn't the best weather to do so. They love their Laker hockey!

Wonderful! Perhaps even fascinating! What does that have to do with whether Michigan, Michigan State and Michigan Tech were traitors for leaving the WCHA?

They wanted to avoid playing against 21 year old Freshman from Canada.

No the six NCHC teams are traitors.

Yes, thank you for reiterating what was established two weeks ago. The question at hand though was whether Michigan, Michigan State and Michigan Tech were also traitors for leaving the WCHA at one time.

No last I looked MTU was still playing in the WCHA. So I would say they are not traitor.

But Michigan Tech did once leave the WCHA because they thought it was best for them, thus they must also be traitors. It's only logical.
