If we find a significant amount of help from Congress people- hoping that people neuter what happens over the next week- I'd be ok with waiting for conviction in the Senate, post purging the offending Senators. I could imagine that some congress people can go to prison for this if the are found out.

It's kind of hard to fathom that we have lawmakers who clearly don't understand the law. Somehow, the lack of presenting information in a court of law equals that the courts didn't want to hear it, or that it's still true. One other thing that's odd- they seem to be convinced that there's actual data to show that dumpy won- but have held it back from the 100% legal means to overturn the election. Instead, holding it to have a violent take over.

(which opens up new threads on 2021 elections to fill holes in the House, and Governors filling slots until Nov '22. But that is secondary to getting the traitors out of our government- once again, the "drain the swap" was filling the swamp with hate and opportunists.)
 
So this is turning out to be similar to the Civil War- families against themselves. GMA is reporting children that are turning in their parents that they recognize in videos.

And the FBI "reaction" is also interesting- it's coming out that they fully knew that this was coming, but the actual response, including the "we were surprised" looks that there was clear intentional lack of response.

Oh they flat out asked the Arizona Democratic Party for help in taking him down. They have been out front trying to destroy him since Wednesday.

Gohmert was definitely part of this.
 
Seth Abramson spelled out the whole "alleged" conspiracy in a Twitter thread - Biggs and Gosar recruited and briefed the AZ Proud Boys, and brought along Brooks and some other AL knuckleheads under the control of Don Jr., Rudy, Flynn, etc. It's amazing. The timing was off by seconds from slaughtering the congressional leadership.
 
In my fantasies this whole insurgency would be treated in some ways like a TV police procedural. Mass arrests of a bunch of nobodies who then, in exchange for 3 hots and a cot for the rest of their lives instead of the hot shot give up the leaders of the mafia family.

As was posted earlier, this was an inside job. The cover to complete it was going to be the chaos of a couple of thousand people who were going to walk through, smash a couple of windows, take a couple of 5h!ts on a couple of desks, maybe kill a cop or two, maybe sacrifice 4 or 5 of their own. All the while 15 or 20 other people would attempt to locate the Vice President, the Speaker and 2 or 3 other key members of congress and lead them out of the building in chains (or zip ties because that's what they carry in their "go" bags) as hostages. And maybe assassinate them on live TV.

Members of congress were involved. Not just with their alarming rhetoric, but with actual planning and assistance. Members of the Capitol police were involved. Not just in jokingly putting on a MAGA hat or taking a selfie. Not just in letting the mob overwhelm their lines and letting people storm in. They were involved in helping others navigate the halls, where to go, who would be where. There are likely other federal law enforcement officials involved, and maybe even a few members of the military.

We dodged a bullet on 1-6. 1-6 was actually a far, FAR more precarious day for this democracy than 9-11. Exponentially more so I would believe. 1-6 should go down in history as actual day of infamy. If this country is actually going to survive, Americans will need to understand and accept what really was happening on 1-6. This was not a mob that was allowed by a few MAGAts in uniform to run amok. This was not mere incompetence on the part of the Capitol Police. This was insurrection. This was an attempted coup. In fact this was a declaration of war on the country by those who perpetrated this attack. If we don't hold all responsible for their actions, from the first pooper all the way through the most senior member of congress, to the greatest extent prescribed for by law, our democracy may as well just call it a day.

While that is believable I don't trust Abramson to actually know what is going on. But if he is even partially right we might see Reps get the Death Penalty...

It's kind of sad that the more we learn about this, the more your last paragraph rings true.

Again, how people can actually put their hand on a Bible, swear allegiance to the Constitution, and then attack it so quickly after that is astonishing. Let alone the millions of Americans who actually believe that this illegal and unConstitutional action was to save the Constitution. Crazy.

And when you actually question what is the REAL beef with Biden and Democrats- what really is it? Do they think healthcare for all is THAT evil???

I'm sure they will decry some kind of socialism, but what they are afraid of is socialism for everyone, when right now we have socialism for the rich and large corporations. Kind of insane.

People think that our defense is so much a part of the Constitution- but they don't seem to know that the TWO times the phrase "common defense" shows up, the phrase "general Welfare" is exactly right next to it. One as a goal, the other as a reason to tax. Defense has a massive amount of restrictions, general Welfare does not.

Nowhere in the Constitution does is lay out what kind of economy we have- free market, capitalism, socialism, and even communism are all allowed.

Anybody know when/if they plan on installing shatter resistant windows into the capitol building? I'd imagine all of the glass in that place will need to be replaced for redundancy needs.
 
OMG have you guys seen the pictures of the National Guard all lying down on the floor in the Capitol as Congress walks in to vote on impeachment??? I'm at a total loss!!

ETA - after a quick perusal of Twitter, it seems like they were all sleeping there overnight but to just see it, it appears to me like they were laying down arms so anyone could walk in.

I think fewer than 10 House republicans will vote to impeach. I think the 5 who have publicly declared they will vote to impeach the president will be joined by no more than 4 others. So while this technically will be a bipartisan effort, I predict fully 95%+ or the republican delegation does not feel impeaching the president for being a fvcking traitor is the right thing to do. I hope the Justice Department is slightly more loyal than the minority party because if it is not, we are not going to see a single member of congress truly held accountable for planning and aiding in a coup. And if that is the case, we have already lost our country.

With the info that is around (apparently), the number of House members involved sounds to be many- and given the evidence, the chance of them being expelled seem pretty good. If the FBI can connect them directly with illegal acts, then the recent press conferences suggest they will be prosecuted, too.

Somebody said something on the morning coverage that I agree with. The vote won't be close. It will either be 5 Republicans... or 25. It won't be 15.

There is a landslide of muddy cowards who are flop sweating through this desperate to keep their heads down and try to save their careers. Last night the play seemed to be to vote a mealy-mouthed no and pray it all gets forgotten. Today it is looking more and more like the play is shifting to join a bipartisan impeachment of Dump to save the Republican party's face.

They are deeply, deeply cynical -- it's just a matter of which cynical choice they make to protect their own wrinkled ashes.

I will believe this when I see it. I think the worst that will happen to any of them is they will be pressured (quietly) by their party to resign or not seek re-election because their ability to raise money will be limited. I think the arrests and prison time will be reserved for the kinds of people we are already seeing arrested. It does nothing to see some idiot state representative from West Virginia who no one has ever heard of being led out of his trailer in handcuffs. It would actually do something to see a member of the United States Congress like Ted Cruz being led away in chains. And it ain't gonna happen.
