You want to throw the baby out with the bathwater. I get it, but the problem isn't executive clemency, but the failure of the legislature to check the executive.

Then develop other methods to review and right those wrongs.

Your example is the equivalent of arming teachers in case there's an active shooter.

The guy who killed himself did it for a reason. His fellow officer was buried and he felt guilty. He knew something or was involved.

As for Luntz he is a media whore for sure. This lie though gets him almost nothing cause no one will believe it. I would need to have an idea who he was talking about to know for sure though. I had 5 I thought of...but I also dont know the Senate that well.

It seems like while the saying you're referring to could be done away with, that if we do eradicate it completely, we'd also be losing some small valuable contribution it makes to our lexicon even though it's usually annoying. But I can't think of a way to put that into words succinctly.

Her best move is to wait until she is sure the Repubs have a majority in a big vote, grandstand and get the attention while she fake waffles, then vote against her party knowing her side was going to win anyways.
My fellow Mainers eat it up as some noble Margaret Chase Smith moment, when actually it’s extreme weakness.

Oh please. Funny how you weren't complaining when governors commuted sentences of pot smokers wholesale.

Because no one is above the law, amirite?
