Grand Unified Election Thread 2: What is the difference between Biden and Dump?

Stupid question: Why does Loeffler get to contest anything tomorrow? The Senate is 50R-48D right now and they won't have a winner declared for a day or two. There are no Georgia Senators currently.

That's... a really good question. Unless GA law specifies that in case of a contested election the old Senator is appointed as the new Senator until resolution. In that case both Perdue and Loeffler would have temporary appointments. Perdue can't be there cuz the COVID. Are we sure the Senate is not temporarily 52-48?

EDIT: The official site of the Senate has Loeffler listed, not Perdue, and the Senate is currently 51-48.

All I can think of is an appointed Senator remains in office until replaced, while an elected Senator does not. Huh.

With this being a runoff election, the results should be known pretty quickly after the polls close, right? It's not like each county or district has to carefully discern differences between ballots.

Loeffler was appointed to temporarily fill a term that ends in January 2023. She remains in office until an election can be held to determine a permanent replacement for the seat.

Also, GA requires mail-ins to be processed upon receipt although not counted until polls close. If the general election is a guide they'll count the in-persons, then the early mail-ins, and then the 1/5 receipt mail-ins. 538 said 90% of GA returns were reported by 2 a.m. in the general and they expect this will go at least as quickly. There will be a significant blue shift again so don't freak if the Nazis start out ahead unless they're ahead by like 10.

There will in fact be occasional local ballot differences if there are local runoffs.

So he voted for Trump two months ago, but today he voted for a Dem senator? And he suddenly cares about taxes, the environment, and diversity issues?

I don't buy it. He's either trolling the media, or the media is trolling the public for clicks/eyeballs.

Or he did switch but doesn't want to say why. There is no chance he had a come to Jesus moment randomly. Someone got sick or he has investments in Green Energy or something...

Or...maybe he is Raffensberger's long lost brother!

BTW I still maintain that it should have been Warnock vs. Perdue and Ossof vs. Loeffler. I have no idea if that was possible but that always seemed like the better matchups.
