I think the fairly widespread vote splitting (voting for Biden + incumbent Republican senator) is unfortunately a repudiation of a progressive agenda by the majority of voters. They wanted to get rid of Trump, and they want the Senate to gridlock a Democratic house and presidency.

I don’t think that’s it. If it was a rematch of 2014 I would have voted for Bellows over Collins. But someone from out of state with big out of state money behind her? No thanks.

My dad has been saying that for years. He also says The American Dream is Greed. "I Get Mine and Screw the Rest!". Basically half this country thinks Gordon Gecko is the hero in Wall Street and want to be him. And they never realize they can never be him and the people who they vote for would never LET them be him. They are Bud Fox hopelessly outmatched in a game they dont know was rigged before they were born.

The nihilistic version of my dad (since he turned roughly 60 or so) is depressing as hell but it gets proven right more often than not these days. Of course if he was his younger spry self the rant I went on earlier in this thread would have been the opening thesis. I remember asking him about why Nixon didn't challenge the 1960 results when there was legit accusations of widespread fraud and he gave a nice 20 minute lecture on how that goes against everything this country stands for and that if the fraud was proven to be true it would probably be the end of the American Experiment. The idea made steam come out of his ears. My pride in this country and its norms and its possibilities comes from him.

Now...he almost seems to welcome it. He is so cynical and so done he kind of just wants to watch the world burn. He has watched this country step on their dick so much and never fix anything that needs fixing he doesnt see the point anymore. It is sad...and it is why he watches Faux a lot these days because they definitely are the choice for a nihilist. He also has almost no friends anymore and even I barely talk to him and it makes me sick as heck.

Texas is/was supposed to flip eventually. So should Georgia, and North Carolina according to demographics. If Voter Suppression and Racism weren't at such a high level in this country a permanent Democratic majority in the Senate would have happened by now.

Well the minor silver lining is if Biden wins at least no judges go through so the raping of the federal benches slows down.

Of course if Biden wins who knows what kind of Stimulus will come about. If Trump wins who knows if we even get one that has any real value. Yet the market is up...

Austerity will be the rule of the land the entire time Biden is President. Unless Dems wake the fuck up in two years. But, I doubt the Senate will be in jeopardy like it should have been this time.
