Graduates on the Cup

Re: Graduates on the Cup

I don't know if he graduated or not, but Crisafulli Rink in Oswego has a tribute to Clarkson's Erik Cole.

EDIT: Looks like he only spent 3 years there.

Mike Peluso .... Four years at UAA and his name is on the 95 devils cup ... Member of the "crash" line with bobby Holik and randy McKay.

In tv broadcasting terms he gave the announcers much to talk about when he couldn't finish his last two shifts as he was overwhelmed emotionally. One of the most compelling stories in lord Stanley history if you ask me.

Also ... He payed D all four years at UAA and if I am not mistaken never skated that position in the NHL.

Re: Graduates on the Cup

I tried to find the graduate vs. attendee status of Scuderi and Gionta at B.C. The best I could do was they played hockey for BC four years and they attended BC four years.

Ryan Shannon ('05) won a cup with Anaheim in 2007.

As for Yale grads... um... Murray Murdoch won two Cups with the Rangers in the 1930's? Also, technically Mike Richter graduated from Yale, but I don't think we can claim him as a hockey player. ;)

Re: Graduates on the Cup

Miami's Dan Boyle and Kevyn Adams are on the cup and both graduated. Alec Martinez is close to graduating after leaving after his junior year.

Re: Graduates on the Cup

I goofed, and I'm surprised I wasn't called on it. A hockey player may value being inducted into the [NHL] Hall of Fame more than getting his name on the Cup. The Hall of Fame list is shorter and at the same time more inclusive of individual talent. Which American hockey colleges/universities (any division) can claim the most GRADUATES (vs. attendees) in the Hall of Fame? This question strays from the original post, but the list won't be very long or distracting.

St. Lawrence has 2:

Bill Torrey (Builder) and Brian McFarland (Journalist). Both in 1995 I believe.
Possibly Mike Keenan in the future.

Re: Graduates on the Cup

Clarkson has 4 on the Cup.
Colin Patterson - Flames (1st day with the Cup)
Kent Huskins -Ducks
Eric Cole - Hurricanes
Willie Mitchell - Kings

Of the four I know Patterson got a diploma. Not sure on the other 3.

Todd Marchant too, 2007 Ducks.....doubt he graduated.

Re: Graduates on the Cup

Brian Rolston, Lake State Laker, scored the winning goal in the NCAA Championship game and was on a Stanley Cup winner with the NJ Devils!!! Whata pro career that just ended!!!!

Re: Graduates on the Cup

UNH has five alums with names on the Lord Stanley Cup: Rod Langway (only 2 yrs at UNH, '79 cup with Canadians), Dave Lumley (4 yrs at UNH, both '84 and '85 cups wih Oilers), Norm Lacombe (only 2 yrs at UNH, '88 cup with Oilers), Kevin Dean (4 yrs at UNH, '95 cup with Devils), and Bryan Muir (only 3 yrs a UNH, '01 cup with Avalanche). I am pretty sure that Lummer and Dean graduated, but not sure if the other three went back to finish.

Reads thread title. Reads post. Reads thread title again. Leaves confused.

He would have been a senior this year. Instead, he got his name on the cup, and signed a 5.4 million dollar contract.

Pretty sure no one here is saying not to be proud of him. But, at least for now, he is not a graduate.

Re: Graduates on the Cup

I believe the names Martin St. Louis and Tim Thomas come to mind and possibly Kelly Hrudy?

Re: Graduates on the Cup

New York Islanders Assistant Coach Doug Weight? Hmmmm, did he ever go back to finish his degree with LSSU? If he did, that would be an accomplishment in of itself. Seems like he was going non-stop since leaving the Lakers up until a couple years ago
