Gophers @ Beavers. 3/8-3/9. Again.

Re: Gophers @ Beavers. 3/8-3/9. Again.

Tied at 3 against unranked Burrrrmidji in the 3rd with a share of the Macnaughton on the line!.........pride on ice.

2 pts , we'll take it.

Another win tomorrow gives us a 2nd place WCHA (possible share of the Mac) finish, so there's that.

Re: Gophers @ Beavers. 3/8-3/9. Again.

And we played like crap, have lots of trouble against trap teams (something about the definition of insanity), and pretty much said we are not winning the MacNoughton a week or two ago.

If St. Cloud loses tomorrow and Minnesota or North Dakota win there would be a three way tie for first.

Simple: SCSU wins just about ALL the tiebreakers. Period.

A miracle has to happen. Jesus Himself is wondering what he has to do to not have SCSU as the #1. WI, of course, is screwed because of that.

I agree but Wally and frank said we could see a tri-champion. St. Cloud has the first seed and Minnesota and North Dakota are fighting for three and four. Seeing Jesus sod be cool. ;)

Re: Gophers @ Beavers. 3/8-3/9. Again.

Not a pretty win tonight, but the Gophers found a way to win on the PP despite their lack of consistent energy and hustle. Give credit to BSU for playing excellent shutdown D, and out hustling the Gophers along the boards and in the corners through long stretches of the game. If BSU finds more offensive mojo, watch out...they'll be a handful for the Gophers if they meet in the playoffs. Nice to see Bjugs get ever closer to another 20 goal season with his 18th and 19th tonight on 2 PP Gs, the last one a blistering tally from his favorite windup spot now in the left circle.

A must win tomorrow night if they want a shot at a piece of the Big Mac; and close out WCHA play forever with a sweep and momentum for next week's playoffs.

Go Gophers! :)

Re: Gophers @ Beavers. 3/8-3/9. Again.

In terms of actual hockey talk...

For Minny, the game plan I assume is that the bigger Gophers like Bjugs and Budish will just set up shop in the Beaver slot and hammer away.

Will BSU be able to stop them? Will they even want to? The weekend hinges upon it.

Right there. I gave BSU the blueprint. They shoulda listened.

Bjugs was camped in the slot with his "long stick" (announcer's words) and stuck it in.

Game over. Beavers F'ed. :p:D

Not a great game by the Gophers again. Maddeningly inconsistent this team. But their talent got it done in the end.

Every time I think you can't get any dumber, you go and prove me wrong. Is there some component in the PWR or KRACH that I'm not aware of that counts scores midway in the third, instead of the final?

Ok. A win is a win is a win. But seriously, the rink appeared to be about 150'x 60'. Time and space, ugh. As uncomfortable as I felt getting down 3-2 in the third, especially given the symbolic importance of the game ( Mcnaughton , WCHA final five seeding ) I must tip my cap to the fact that this team does not seem to give up. They may often start like crap and play long stretches as if they only kind of care, but in the end the effort and desire seems to come back enough to make no game out of reach ( see No Dak saturday game for one ) It may haunt them come NCAA time, but with that little bit of never say die attitude, they may go far. But please committee, let the Gophers play only uptempo teams in the playoffs, mmmm?

You can't argue with a great hockey mind. I don't know why Coach Serratore wasn't following all of the many UM-TC/BSU threads to glean this profound insight (incite?).

Re: Gophers @ Beavers. 3/8-3/9. Again.

The Beavers are a fast pesky bunch who play a perfect system for their talent, if they had a few more goal scorers they would be battling for home ice imo.

I also agree that trap teams are no fun to play against.
