Gophers at Bulldogs Oct 14 & 15 - No more well wishes

Re: Gophers at Bulldogs Oct 14 & 15 - No more well wishes

I would imagine the games are sellouts up there?

Re: Gophers at Bulldogs Oct 14 & 15 - No more well wishes

Nice

You'll have to grab a growler or two from Fitgers while up in Duluth.

Always a good choice!

Ahh, gameday. Why did Jake Hanson have to go and say something like that. Just giving us a little extra ammunition! Should be a good series. tGrandma's will be rockin' on Saturday!

Wow. Some Bulldog fans are really taking the Hansen comments a little too personally.

Agreed. Personally, I don't see what the big deal is. I mean, does any Bulldog fan really disagree that the Gophers have historically dominated this rivalry, and that expectations are that Gophers (as the premier MN school) continue to dominate?

That's just reality. No school in this country, let alone MN, has the pressure and expectations that UMN has.

Are there comments there? How do I see them?

Look at the UMDPenaltyBox message board or listen to runwiththedogs current Twitter-Tantrem.

OK, I thought I was missing something on the Strib site. I certainly won't waste my time on RWD's rants and probably not on UMDPB either.

It is on the Strib Site. At the bottom of the article is a comment icon that has a number in it (48 or so). Click on that to see comments.

Still not seeing it. Do I have to subscribe, or sign-in or something? I see ways to e-mail the article or print it and some facebook crap, no icon with a number.

Maybe it's because he sounds like an arrogant a**hole? That might have something to do with it. Modesty goes a long way.

Nothing wrong with his comments. The Gophers have dominated the rivalry historically. They are expected to dominate. They haven't lived up to expectations lately and it bothered him to see the Dogs win because it reminded him that the Gophers haven't lived up to expectations.

It has nothing to do with the Bulldogs and everything to do with the Gophers.

And that is fine, but do it with some dignity for christ sakes. "We're happy to see a title back in the state of Minnesota. This just gives us some extra drive to return ourselves to the premier team in the state." would have been a lot better than what he said. He just sounded like a jealous cry baby.

I guess the Gophers are playing SCSU this weekend. I thought they were playing tUMD but it can't be based on the postings from today.

Jake Hansen said:
"For a lot of years, we have been the dominant program over Duluth. They have the crown now...that's a little strange. The University of Minnesota is supposed to be the premier program. That's what we're trying to get back to this year."

So, I guess the reading comprehension thing is a little lacking up in Daloot, eh? How the eff does that come out as arrogant? It is a simple statement of fact. If that's the best you can do for "bulletin board material" you guys are really reaching.

Yeah, that would have been a more PR way to say it, but he isn't a PR guy. He just spoke truthfully about how it made him feel. I'm sure he was glad to see the title come back to Minny (we all were), but it probably stung a little too because it reminded him just how much the Gophers have failed expectations lately.

It doesn't come off as arrogant to you. To others, such as a lot of people in Duluth, it does. Maybe it's because we don't ALL think that's a fact. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. But some of us take pride in our program, and don't exactly feel that UMTC is and always will be the premier team in the state. I very well could be wrong, but it's an opinion.
