Good stuff that happened this year...

Instead of listing all the awful things that happened I thought it might be nice to think of some of the highlights of the year~ So what was the best stuff that happened to you this year?

Lil is blossoming in HS after a tough road so far in the younger grades.

I have rediscovered my love for Track and Cross Country (spectating only) and managed to take some really awesome pictures and meet some great folks involved.

This is going to sound crazy but managed to have no deaths in the immediate family for the first time in awhile.

Re: Good stuff that happened this year...

Getting a job!

Connecting with family that I have not connected with in many years or ever.

Stomach issues have hopefully been curved. This year I had less pain than in the past 3 years.

Re: Good stuff that happened this year...

after a staggering defeat in June at the Indiana Invitational (when my partner and i were 4up with 8 holes to go before losing in the final), we turned a 5th place position in the final day of my home club's three day Invitational into an overall victory. we won our two sunday matches in overwhelming fashion to tie for the lead, where we won via tiebreaker since we beat that team during day 1. from there we played a four hole alternate shot playoff where two teams were eliminated on each hole, first by score, then by chip off. on the final hole with three teams, i sank a 12 foot putt to force a chip off, where my partner - Brian - chipped to seven feet to give us the title.

on top of the title, money, and fame -- we found out later than we each won a green jacket with the club logo (which we will be entitled to wear to the tournament dinner dances in perpetuity, as well as having our entry fee waived for 2011 [a savings to me of $700!!])

a banner year, was 2010!! ;)

Re: Good stuff that happened this year...

Having a job relevant to my field, even if it only lasted about three months. At least it was something I could put on the resume, and keeps my work experience more recent.

Attending the wedding of two friends from college, and being confident that their marriage will last.

Getting halfway to a Masters degree and somehow maintaining a 3.6 GPA.

Exercising more than the previous five years of my life (still a long way to go if I want to lose the 20-30 lbs that I ought to).

Caught up with a few people that I hadn't seen since high school.

Lots of room for improvement in 2011 though

Re: Good stuff that happened this year...

Ditching the fat-free lifestyle and finding I could enjoy bacon, regular cheese, etc again without fear.

After disaster at the Fifth-Third 25K in May, finishing the Old Boys' half-marathon in 2:24:xx and the Detroit Marathon in 5:16:46.

Having the world's best BBQ sandwich at Slow's in Detroit.

Learning how to cook beef heart, tongue, liver, and oxtail.

Reconnecting with my brother, aunt, and other people I thought had disappeared from my life.

Re: Good stuff that happened this year...

Mother Theresa died. That wasn't good. Unless you hated Mother Theresa. I myself was not a fan. Don't ask why, we were just like oil and water, we didn't mix.

Re: Good stuff that happened this year...

Moved in with tcbg.

Took some tough classes and did well - hopefully they'll lead toward a degree and a career.

Got accepted into an EMT program.

Got a job involving kids that has made me come to terms with some issues I have about children.

Was, mostly, actually... happy.

Re: Good stuff that happened this year...

Neat thread....

My daughter who has a host of physical and mental issues, has done some amazing things the last year, and progress in the reading and talking areas has been better than expected.

My wife and I were both laid off in the spring, but we pulled through financially.

My oldest son is doing great in his first yr of high school.

My youngest son won a couple championships in soccer and played awesome as a goalie/defender.

I hooked into a couple large muskies that my equipment failed to help me get in the boat, but at least I hooked into them and got the heart racing.

We did splendidly on perch fishing this year; it was the best year evah. Hopefully that unsual pattern will hold next year as well.

My wife and I continued to serve the Lord is various ways at our Church (and a little on the web) throughout the year.

Thanks Lord for a great 2010, but we're going to need more help in 2011 for sure. We'll be in touch.

Re: Good stuff that happened this year...

still alive

Me, too. :)

HuskyNation got a job in June after being unemployed for ~18 months.
He was able to get me a job at the same place so I could move down there with him - I was left in Michigan while he was working in Ohio.
He finally officially asked me to marry him over Thanksgiving weekend; of course I said yes! :)
We both made it through some major health scares in December - he with gall stone pancreatitis and gall bladder removal, me with a DVT, a double PE, high BP, and an abnormal EKG. We've got some adjustments to make, but we're both around to make them.

Re: Good stuff that happened this year...

best thing that happened this year was my mom having successful back surgery to completely relieve 4 months of constant, excruciating pain that didn't respond to painkillers. she literally woke up from surgery and felt 100% better. it was great to see how happy she was, she was like a little kid she was so excited.

Re: Good stuff that happened this year...

Cancer free for year #3 as of 12/27/10. I'm pretty happy about that. As a result, I've been placed back on the transplant (kidney) waiting list awaiting transplant a second transplant.

Re: Good stuff that happened this year...

Well, I started with a job, lost that one, got a new one a month later but that contract is almost up so i am looking for another one, I had successful surgery to relieve a deviated septum and I'm breathing a lot better, and the birth of my healthy niece.

Re: Good stuff that happened this year...

My daughter got into a college that does not involve nail care or card tricks. My wife and I started work outs (at 5 in the freaking morning...). Every member of my family continued to live forever as befits Gods and Goddesses. The New Year's Eve sewer back-up to our utility sink was fixed. No sequel was announced for The Departed. Cornell hockey won the ECACs, the Cornell women went to the NCAA championship game, and Cornell hoops made the Sweet 16, all in the same weekend. The Mets fired Omar and Jerry, Notre Dame won a bowl game, and the Seahawks pissed everybody off.
