Good Bye NCHA, Hello WIAC. Grab a life vest SNC and CSS!

40% is not 70%....and 20% MSEP is not 40% MSEP....those are BIG gaps...while yes UWS does have an advantage (and probably a major reason why they are 2nd in the NCHA over the years), they are not in the 60% and 70% range and 20% range of MSEP....BIG difference.

It's also a lot harder to kick out a WIAC school then a private school....just saying....again trust me I'm not saying I don't dissagree....but if the other 4 schools can't finacially keep up and or give out the aid, this is their way out of trying to save face in DIII hockey...right or wrong I think this is one of the major issues. SNC hasn't won ALL their NCHA Championships and NCAA Championships just because of FA...but if they were limited to 3 or 4 foreign students a year on a roster, how would they look then?

I would imagine Tim Coghlin would find as many good U.S. players as he could find to get them back to the Frozen Four.

I would have to agree with GB Puck Fans about SNC going DI and playing in the arena. As she said the arena is a dump, if you took a recruit there to see where they were going to play they would turn around a leave. Most Jr. players played in arenas much better than the one in GB. It would take major money to update and I do not see that happening. Youth hockey leagues do not even want to play there.

What would tickle your fancy?

What part about the word "numbers" is so hard for you to wrap your head around? If you're going to sit here make claims about the relative costs of schools 1500 miles away from you, one would think you'd have something on which to back your claims.

Until you do, you have nothing to contribute here.

I'm sure we can all just take your word for that too.

What scholarships and awards are available for international students?

International applicants for admission are automatically reviewed for consideration of the college’s academic merit based scholarships. St. Norbert offers primarily academic scholarships based on merit and then extra-curricular leadership awards.

The merit awards are offered based on student grades and performance in secondary school; these academic awards are named after famous political figures in U.S. history. They have a maximum value of $12,000 USD per academic year beginning with applicants for the 2011-2012 academic year.

The extra-curricular International Leadership awards are based on an applicant’s involvement in activities outside of the classroom that demonstrate leadership, academic interest, and volunteersim.

St. Norbert College has a very limited amount of need-based aid that we offer to international students.

Financial packages will never cover the living expenses and fees for international students on campus; we anticipate these fees to be at or near $10,000 USD for the 2010-2011 academic year.

Scholarship ranges for the Academic Year 2011-2012:

•International student merit scholarships range between $5,000 and the maximum of $12,000 per academic year.
•International student leadership grants range between $1,000 and the maximum $6,000 per academic year.
•St. Norbert College does not offer athletic scholarships or awards that cover the entire cost of attendance.

What is your point? You Plattsburg guys keep trying to make an argument but supply no hard facts.

I made no argument, it is merely a direct cut & paste from the SNC website - point and click on the Blue Bold highlighted line.

Or am I missing your point??

You think its a Kawinki-Dink that the Wisc schools have on average about 12% foreign players and 63% MSEP players? vs Private schools 63% foreign players and 23% MSEP players?? What are they putting in your Kool-Aid errrr Cheese?

No kidding, Sherlock. That lists general guidelines. As it says it is need-based. You clowns and the publics are making it sound like SNC is buying internationals.

No, those are NOT "need-based" thats a whole seperate item. These are Academic MERIT guidelines for ALL INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS if they meet the GPA...Extra money off...something state schools don't have the funding (the majority of the time) to do. They are not "buying" anyone, they are making it cheaper for International Students to attend a great college. And where do you find the biggest hockey pool? In Canada. And what are you if you're Canadian? An International Student.

IMO, they are - Just Like Oswego, Plattsburgh and most of the Successful schools.

What "hard facts" are you looking for? I don't believe anyone is suggesting that they are operating outside of acceptable NCAA regulations. But IMO, there is no argument that they have the benefit of a significant international aid program (such as student from Canada AND Sweden) but also the burden of insuring their award percentages ratio between athletes and non-athletes stay within NCAA boundaries.

FYI - Plattsburgh's International Student aid is:
Each degree-seeking international student is awarded a financial package upon admission. Financial aid awards range from $2,500 - $10,000.

Oswego's International Student is:
•$48,000 International Student Undergraduate Scholarship; International Students only ($12,000 annually for up to four years; $4,500 annually if living off-campus )

I am offended that players from Michigan are not being counted as international players. I have been there, entirely different country. Don't even get me started on Yoopers either.

Are you mistaking Vermont for Michigan, LOL :p

The whole original point I was trying to make before you guys decided to pad your post total was that maybe the publics should work harder to upgrade their programs and broaded their recruiting base. To say its because of international student financial aid its probably ignoring the actual factors in play. Every Wisconsin taxpayer subsidizes the education of every UW System student, with residents getting a larger subsidy. All of those athletic departments are also subsidized by student fees, which is nearly impossible to do at a private school. So in the end any perceived advantages even out.

Oswego & Plattsburgh ARE "publics".

It is not like the UW's don't have any internationals students, they do, and at least in the case of Eau Claire, Point and Superior they give scholarships and aid to international students. River and Stout have international students as well but it is not clear what if anything they do to aid them.

To help your point, UWSP has tuition breaks for students from Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska or North Dakota. This is part of the Midwest Student Exchange program. This can help them get players. Norberts and CSS are not a part of this program.
