Golf 2016 - I Phil we'll never hear the Rory of the Tiger again.

Yesterday, Sergio missed an eagle putt by 13 feet and destroyed his putter. With his putter out of play, he sank the birdie with a 3 wood.

However, he went +5 the rest of the round, as a combination of woods and irons didn't work.

Re: Golf 2016 - I Phil we'll never hear the Rory of the Tiger again.

Golf Canada has announced new rules for senior golfers. ;

o Rule 1.a.5 – A ball sliced or hooked into the Rough shall be lifted and placed on the Fairway at a point equal to the distance it carried or rolled into the Rough with no penalty. The senior player should not be penalized for tall grass which ground keepers failed to mow.

o Rule 2.d.6 (B) – A ball hitting a tree shall be deemed NOT to have hit the tree. This is simply bad luck and luck has no place in a scientific game. The senior player must estimate the distance the ball would have traveled if it had not hit the tree, and play the ball from there.

o Rule 3.B.3(G) – There shall be no such thing as a lost ball. The missing ball is on or near the course and will eventually be found and pocketed by someone else, thereby making it a stolen ball. The senior player is not to compound the felony by charging himself with a penalty.

o Rule 4.c.7(h) – If a putt passes over a hole without dropping, it is deemed to have dropped. The Law of Gravity supersedes the Rules of Golf.

o Rule 5. – Putts that stop close enough to the cup that they could be blown in, may be blown in. This does not apply to balls more than three inches from the Hole. No one wants to make a mockery of the game.

o Rule 6.a.9(k) – There is no penalty for so-called “out of bounds.” If penny-pinching golf course owners bought sufficient land, this would not occur. The senior player deserves an apology, not a penalty.

o Rule 7.G.15(z) – There is no penalty for a ball in a water hazard, as golf balls should float. Senior players should not be penalized for any shortcomings of the manufacturers.

o Rule 8.k.9(S) – Advertisements claim that golf scores can be improved by purchasing new golf equipment. Since this is financially impractical for many senior players, one-half stroke per hole may be subtracted for using old equipment. Please advise all your senior friends of these important rule changes and keep multiple copies in your golf bag. Those not following the rules need to be provided a copy. Golf is a game of integrity.

Nice to see the Trump Rules finally getting approved. :p:D:D

When I was in high school I tried using a 3-wood on the practice green and almost got kicked out of the club.

I've started a nasty habit of leaving the ball right on the outside lip of the sandtrap, meaning I have to stand in the trap to take pitch/chip or with one foot in and one foot out.

I'm not Phil, so this obviously does not help my score. Any pointers besides choking way down the club?

Don't count that.

Wes Bryan, of YouTube fame and pro golfer, played the final round of the BMW as a single. He did so in 1 hour, 29 minutes. He shot 69.

Re: Golf 2016 - I Phil we'll never hear the Rory of the Tiger again.

This is a true story you won't believe and which I wouldn't either. Happily my best friend was playing with me so I have exactly one witness.

I played regularly for just one year and was terrible. I played terrible, terrible munis in MA and then in NC. The kind where you can literally lose a ball on the fairway. I was a snowman veteran and any hole which I made out at +2 or better was like New Year's Eve meets Birthday Party with Hookers.

I was bad.

So my friend and I were playing another terrible public course in Chapel Hill -- if anyone has experience there it's one which actually has one hole tee off a hillock about 60 feet above the fairway which also slopes down, so you could theoretically be as sucky as me but on a hot, dry day maybe still rip the ball 250 yards and feel like a pro (my typical 3-wood drive was about 180 yards; I told you, I sucked).

About 2 more holes down there was the shortest real course hole I've ever seen -- it was at most 95 yards, and it was on a horrific downslope. The green was tiny and unforgiving which, well OK that short I'll give it to them, and it was surrounded on three sides by a stony path. I teed off and hooked horrifically. The ball missed everything but then rebounded almost straight up into the air from somewhere well to the left of the green, came down on a beautiful parabola and rode the stick right into the hole. We were so close to the hole I saw it all perfectly except where the ball actually rebounded from -- that was way out of view on the left of the hole.

I hated golf but there it is. With a witness. I'd love to claim it was the worst par 3 tee shot of my life but god no I had tons worse and they all wound up with like a 10.

Kep

Cross the river and play Poolesville. Montgomery County has a whole bunch of county courses and they're in pretty good shape and reasonably priced.

I have not played since 1995. Zero interest.
