Going to Pittsburgh

Re: Going to Pittsburgh

The average *high* on April 11th in Pittsburgh is 60. The average overnight low is 39. So, like I said, blender drinks outside after the games are probably off the table.

(The average high in Tampa on April 11th is 80. I'm just saying.)

I am fine with going back to Tampa.

Re: Going to Pittsburgh

Will there be a poster's game? :)
I presume not.

That's partly on me; a year ago I expressed interest in organizing it. But even now my Pittsburgh plans remain ridiculously unsettled. Turns out that taking the lead this year just isn't an option for me. More significant than my personal situation is the fact that there has been no communication whatsoever between those who've organized the Posters' Game over the years.

Some context: The Posters' Game had a great run from 2002 through 2011. Perhaps somewhat ironically, that era began and ended in the Twin Cities. Along the way there were many great memories created. Playing in outstanding venues like Yost and Magness was a real pleasure. Even better was meeting posters from schools all over the country.

Sadly, airline baggage fees have made it much tougher to attract a "national" group of players. Reasonably enough, most players aren't willing to pay big pucks to fly their gear for one recreational game. When the participant group is mostly limited to those close enough to drive, it changes the mix considerably. For this reason, not having the game last year in Tampa was the correct call. Unfortunately the year off also caused the event to lose momentum...

Bottom Line For 2013: If someone from Pittsburgh wants to step up and organize, perhaps it's not too late for this year. But unless such a white knight comes forward very quickly, there's no need to hold time open for a Posters' Game when making your 2013 FF plans.

Looking Ahead: Will there be future Posters' Games? It would be great to start a "Next Generation." But for that to happen in 2014, we'd need someone with Philly connections to take the lead. That most certainly would not be me, although I'd be glad to play a supporting role in such an effort. Note that for most of the past games, an active Cafe thread generally emerged the preceding Fall, after the new hockey season began. If Philly is going to happen, the organizing should start at that point.

Re: Going to Pittsburgh

Made my hotel reservations yesterday. Thanks, Priceline. The hotel at the Consol Center was a bargain at only $399/night.

No that isn't where I'm staying

Re: Going to Pittsburgh

I knew that people in Pittsburgh put fries on everything, but yesterday I had a chef salad... with fries on top. Thanks Primanti's.

Also if you are a hot dog fan, try Johnny's. Yes you can get them with fries on top.
