Re: Global War on Terror Version 7 - The Nightmare that Threatens the World!!!

Sometimes he gets it right.

BRINKLEY: One other question — it keeps coming up. Why didn’t we go to Baghdad and clean it all up while we were there?

Sec. CHENEY: Well, just as it’s important, I think, for a president to know when to commit U.S. forces to combat, it’s also important to know when not to commit U.S. forces to combat. I think for us to get American military personnel involved in a civil war inside Iraq would literally be a quagmire.

Once we got to Baghdad, what would we do? Who would we put in power? What kind of government would we have? Would it be a Sunni government, a Shi’a government, a Kurdish government? Would it be secular, along the lines of the Ba’ath Party?

Would it be fundamentalist Islamic? I do not think the United States wants to have U.S. military forces accept casualties and accept the responsibility of trying to govern Iraq. I think it makes no sense at all.

It just depends whose pockets his hands are in when you ask him.

Well, that blarg post was certainly an alarmist, Alex Jones-ian piece of crap.

You should peruse some of the aggressive ideas that are out there, taking the link as a starting point. If you want to address them point for point people may find it valuable. Otherwise you're not really adding anything.

Thanks. If I thought that your take on what constitutes "adding value" was a legitimate concern, I might consider it. As is, given how often you (correctly) dismiss dog-whistle righty talking points, while (disappointingly) responding with equally alarmist lefty op-eds, I can't be bothered to care all that much. :p

Regardless, this is USCHO; not exactly "serious business".

Fair enough.

So that is where Nate91b went

No offense Kepler but this is very Flaggy of you.

Oh Handy, Handy, Handy...

The key to any sort of, as you have put it, "tin foil hat" reporting, is that you actually have to use your brain to determine what is the truth and what isn't. A number of people, which seems to include yourself, want to blanket believe or deny specific sources, because that makes things easy for the person. The Fox Snooze watching zombies are no different when it comes to this sort of behaviour. It takes a bird's eye view, however, to see that the activity is blinded by binary hatred.

Still waiting for Jade Helm to lead to the overthrow of Texas and the taking away of guns...your time is running short. I hope you dont end up locked up at a Wal-Mart!

Well, OK, but then how does one register concern without being accused of being alarmist? There is an actual menace on the far right. Calling them that is not an exaggeration, so what part of being concerned about them is unwarranted? Is it the probability that they could regain power? They had it already in 2000-08, so it is possible. Is it their capacity to cause violence and destruction? The damage they caused in just 8 years will take decades to recover from.

The most concerning part of this is they learned nothing, and there are about 30% of the electorate who likewise learned nothing and would welcome them back.

So, yes, that scares me.

So, this article was published 3+ months ago, literally no more than 3 people read it, then someone publishes a rebuttal, it's picked up by the likes of the DailyKos. Now it's everywhere on the web, and we'll probably hear about it in the mainstream media before long.

Do we really need to give air time to the rantings of every lunatic? I understand the knee jerk reaction is strong in some, but how do these people seriously sleep if every mad soliloquy sends them running for shelter?

I'd ask the GOP presidential candidates what they thought of the thesis at the next debate. I'll bet at least one of them would say something equally cray cray.

Sorry but one example from an *ahem* questionable web site is tinfoil hatting it up and you know it. If a GOPer posted something from a site like that you would be all over them. (like we all are with Flaggy and his Alex Jones Wannabe Schtick) There are always crackpots with crazy theories, and there always will be...best not to get too hysterical about it.

Well, not on purpose. I'll admit I have a hair trigger when it comes to the Neocons, who seem devoted to embodying the thesis of The Authoritarian Personality.

Having come more than halfway through a poor sinner's life, I've never seen anything in American politics as potentially lethal. Even the hardcore Christian Taliban types aren't as malevolent or, and that's what makes it scary, competent.

Our own boogymen always seem the real-est.
