Global War on Terror Version 6 - Perpetual Motion Machine

Re: Global War on Terror Version 6 - Perpetual Motion Machine

Obama botched not having a meaningful presence in France, either himself or Biden or someone meaningful (or even have Holder head over from his meeting in Paris to join the march), which is surprising, as he usually hits the easy look good appearance type events. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but it was a surprisingly obvious botch.

So, if Obama does A he's a panderer, and if he does Not A then he's a panderer who fails to pander?

That's some Catch that Catch-22.

How is he a panderer if he's one of 40-something world leaders to go to Paris to march? He's not in my book. Or send Biden. That would have assuaged most if not all the angst about the U.S. being mostly absent from the march.

I agree. Cruz is nothing but an opportunist slimebag, but there is no comparison between his (invalid) criticism of Obama and his own absence. The President is the symbolic face of America. Although incorrect, there is at least some meaning in questioning whether the president should be at an event like this. Cruz is protected from the criticism of hypocrisy precisely because Cruz is a zero, and therefore symbolic of nothing.

Cruz is now head of the subcommittee that handles NASA's budget. That alone is reason enough to worry.

Republicans are heads of every committee. We're doomed.

Most republicans aren't on record wanting to defund NASA, especially when it's a major employer in their own state.

Cruz is an ideological shmuck, but a shmuck that can wield inordinate powergiven his position.

I was using your own words:

I personally think it's much ado about nothing. If I'd have been Pres, I'd have skipped it too. It was stupid. Merkel and the rest of those clowns were there because they had nothing else to do. It was pandering, and kind of silly.

I'm sorry a few bat$hit crazy people decided to kill some cartoonists. I'm glad the police terminated, with extreme prejudice, the clowns who did it. Saved us all a trial and the media spectacle that would accompany it.

But do I need to see Obama and a bunch of other "world leaders" parading down the Champs Elysees like they're walking across the bridge in Selma? Spare me.

I hope whoever did Captain Phillips (or maybe "Babel") directs the movie, it could be really good.

But the symbolism! The SYMBOLISM!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conceptions_of_God

But I suppose the counter examples to your blanket statement are not "religious traditions."

sigh.

so, let's parse then.

Many (not all) religions claim that there is at least one and no more than one Deity.

Most (if not all) of these religions also claim that their Deity is omnipotent and omniscient.

Human beings are limited and fallible.

The logical syllogism that results (throw in Kantor's proofs about levels of infinity if you wish): no human being (in these traditions, at least) can possibly conceive the Mind of God, no human being can conceive "God's Will" with absolute certainty: the finite cannot contain the infinite, there is no way to establish the one to one correspondence that is required. QED.

If you prefer a more poetic version, recall the scene from the Bhagavad Gita when Arjuna asks Krishna to appear as His True Self, in his ultimate incarnation as the divinity. Krishna obliges and allows Arjuna to see him in his most majestic power, and appears with "an infinite number of faces, ornamented by heavenly jewels, displaying unending miracles, and countless weapons of his power." He reveals himself as the source of all wonder, with the power of a thousand suns. As Arjuna looks at Krishna in his ultimate form, he is totally overwhelmed and his mind cannot contain what he sees. Krishna then returns to a human avatar and their conversation continues.

You are in the medical profession, are you not? A person comes into your clinic and claims to hear God speaking directly to him. Do you consider this person to be a prophet, or a schizophrenic?

I wonder how many of these "Islamist extremists" really are also schizophrenic......

Your differential is unimaginative. To name a few, they also could be epileptic, have a brain tumor, be a Republican presidential candidate, etc

Re: Global War on Terror Version 6 - Perpetual Motion Machine

Personally, I think the US blew this. I didn't realize how bad until I saw the pictures of Holder taking selfies in front of the Mona Lisa. I was aghast. I can't imagine how bad this looks to the rest of the world. Obama had been doing such a great job repairing out image and now he takes at least a step back. Maybe two.

Re: Global War on Terror Version 6 - Perpetual Motion Machine

I agree. It doesn't matter if the Foamers At The Mouth party would call it pandering, someone of stature from this admin should have gone.

That said burd nailed it picking apart criticisms of Obama's vacation and extracurricular schedule.

People claiming to have a direct pipeline to God is not restricted to one party. Rev. Al and JJ come to mind. For the most part they're harmless, unless they have their own TV show and have an 800 number scrolling across the bottom.

Morality and ethics in a candidate is a good thing. Unfortunately they usually lose.

Re: Global War on Terror Version 6 - Perpetual Motion Machine

To clarify, I don't think Obama should have gone. That would have been unwise at best. That place wasn't secure.

Because voters like you confuse devoutness with morality as though they're one and the same.

Probably why the panderers wanted him to go ;). But I thought about that as well, I imagine they could've made it work but the logistics aren't as simple as some make it out to be.

It's scary than anyone would think that a medical professional would necessarily have any idea if someone heard God speaking to him (whatever directly may mean, which would be a whole 'nother discussion). Apart from an obvious medical condition, they shouldn't.

The rule is if you speak to God you're religious, but if God speaks to you you're having a psychotic break from reality.

If God "speaks" to you as in "these flowers are pretty," that means you're adorable.

If God no quotes speaks to you as in "kill the gays," that means you're insane.
