Re: Global War on Terror Version 6 - Perpetual Motion Machine

Some bad examples decades before if not longer is apples compared to oranges' recent event after recent event.

Priceless, gfy with your latest completely irrelevant response to me.

All I did was ask a question. If you don't want to defend the Catholic Church you don't have to.

And in my case, these aren't "bad examples" from "decades before." Every year religious zealots try to do exactly what dx found so shocking: deciding what can and can't be read by the public.

But the Catholic Church did not behead anyone in 2014.

However, The Church is entering the health market. The Tourquemada Mark 4 back stretcher will soon be found in most health equipment supply houses and stores.

The question wasn't about beheadings, it was about censoring what people could and couldn't read.

And we've already discussed the similarities between beheading someone and lynching, shooting or bombing them.

'twas an attempt at humor to lighten up the mood.

But today saw a tweet that got my dander up a bit....

I guess the answer is Jesus.

Re: Global War on Terror Version 6 - Perpetual Motion Machine

Wrong. Though going to you for advice about religion is about the same as going to Pope Francis for advice about sex.

Their Allah abides no competition. That's no God, that's an idol. With them, we're back in the Old Testament, in which each tribe's god battles every other tribe's god using the tribes as proxies. in today's world, that's demented.

You seem to think that the Allah of a terrorist is the same Allah as the one worshiped by Al-Sisi or Al-Sistani. Devout Muslims, they both rejected that sentiment. I'll take their word for it over yours.

and as for me personally,

"The Way that can be spoken of
Is not the Constant Way."

so that you are now 0 for 2.

Dude take a world religions class or read a book...Allah is still the God of Abraham. That is why Moses and Aaron, along with Jesus are prophets in the Muslim religion. In fact Muhammad considered the Jews, Christians and Muslims as "People of the Book" and to be brothers. (they are all descendants of Abraham afterall)

http://www.pbs.org/empires/islam/faithpeople.html

"Muslims believe that God had previously revealed Himself to the earlier prophets of the Jews and Christians, such as Abraham, Moses, and Jesus. Muslims therefore accept the teachings of both the Jewish Torah and the Christian Gospels. They believe that Islam is the perfection of the religion revealed first to Abraham (who is considered the first Muslim) and later to other prophets. Muslims believe that Jews and Christians have strayed from God's true faith but hold them in higher esteem than pagans and unbelievers. They call Jews and Christians the "People of the Book" and allow them to practice their own religions. Muslims believe that Muhammad is the "seal of the prophecy," by which they mean that he is the last in the series of prophets God sent to mankind. Muslims abhor the followers of later prophets. This attitude serves to explain the extreme Muslim animosity toward Bahais, followers of a nineteenth-century prophet, who in the Muslim mind is false."

Beheaded? Not offhand.

We just burned them at the stake instead. Or drowned them. Or sent them blankets with smallpox. Or fire bombed their places of worship.

Or lynched them.

Nah those werent true christians...you gott read the memes.

For anyone not from the South how were those events viewed back then? But yeah, that stuff happened then so it's ok now.

[/snark]

I know that's not what you're saying but it illustrates how ridiculous it is to counter criticisms about radical Muslims that it used to happen here too. We can only deal with what's happening right now.

Re: Global War on Terror Version 6 - Perpetual Motion Machine

Right, which is why dx asked about the latest abortion bombing which was in 2012. That is still recent.

There are way, way, way more radical muslims than anyone, but lets not pretend the psychos have left other religions as well. The difference is that most religions have condemned them and forced them out as civilization moved on and Islam has yet to do that.

We've covered this too. The Muslim World (however you wish to define it) is about 500 years behind the West. What were we doing 5 centuries ago? Killing in the name of God. From the Crusades to the Inquisition, to <s>Lebensraum</s> Manifest Destiny. Since then we have established Democratic forms of government, the rule of law (not a Theocracy) and modern society (with a thriving middle class). It's like playing Civ and we're already up to modern times on the technology tree and they're stuck in the Middle Ages. They have a Theocracy (or Dictatorship or Monarchy) and only the few super-super-wealthy and everyone else is dirt poor. That leaves them a lot of free time and no prospects for the future which leaves them ripe for the pickings when some fanatical religious leader comes along and tells them Allah wants them to help kill The Great Satan.

We are going to either have to provide them with a future or wait until the oil runs out and then make that desert a radioactive wasteland. How we provide them with a future is what people are trying to figure out because the day is coming when the fireworks start going off.

Re: Global War on Terror Version 6 - Perpetual Motion Machine

Of course it is, and that's not at all what I said. I merely said that the "Allah" of the terrorists is not at all the same "Allah" worshipped by devout mainstream Muslims who believe in the rule of law, in the same way I would say that the "God" of the Spanish Inquisitors is not the same "God" of Pope Francis.
You're parsing individual spirituality, not religions. By your definition, two congregants sitting next to each other in the same pew for 60 years aren't really worshiping the same god, since they would still have their own (however slight) interpretations.

One of the only two Commandments that remain in the revised version put forward in the New Testament is "love your neighbor as yourself."
Yeah, and what was the one Commandment to Rule Them All that is even more important, per Mark 12:29-30? Oh, yeah. "Jesus replied, 'The most important commandment is this: Listen, O Israel! The LORD our God is the one and only LORD. And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.'" Not too different from v1.0, per Exodus 34:14, "Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God."

Gosh, can't IMAGINE how the v3.0 (the Muslim edition) came to "abide no competition." Wherever did he get that idea?

Re: Global War on Terror Version 6 - Perpetual Motion Machine

The difference is that most religions have condemned them and forced them out as civilization moved on and Islam has yet to do that.

Which is why the comparisons are ludicrous. Try to catch up. ;)

Priceless, your latest post might pull some weight if you didn't repeatedly cry, "Yes, because all cops are perfect" and the like.

And your post might pull some weight if I gave a **** about your opinion. :)

Re: Global War on Terror Version 6 - Perpetual Motion Machine

And in both cases it's your bad decision making that's the problem.

"The abuse of liberty, in this country and . . . by these smart alecks who want to take their middle finger and put it in the face of people of faith, that has to stop too," he said. "How about some restraint and civility and decency on the part of these people?"

"I'm sick and tired of these brats who say, 'Muslims, you have to take it,'" Donohue said. "Why don't you disagree with Islam and do it in a civil manner instead of acting like a bunch of libertine thugs yourselves?"
