Global War on Terror III: Dick Cheney's Hague ICC Vacation

Re: Global War on Terror III: Dick Cheney's Hague ICC Vacation

There will always be another boogie man. As empires expand, the border lengthens. Every state on the other side of the border is either an "ally" or an "enemy." Since our empire is commercial and global, every state on Earth that's not completely integrated into our system is an enemy.

Good prospects: Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela, Pakistan, Syria, Burma. Iraq and Afghanistan will become excellent choices as soon as they betray us (i.e., follow their own regional interests rather than ours).

It's really just a question of whether we need a big enemy or a small one.

Bush negotiated the 2011 timeline.

Not until Obama already had an exit plan...

Iraqi PM backs Obama troop exit plan: report

Reuters

In an interview with Der Spiegel released on Saturday, Maliki said he wanted U.S. troops to withdraw from Iraq as soon as possible. It is the first time he has backed the withdrawal timetable put forward by Obama, who is visiting Afghanistan and us set to go to Iraq as part of a tour of Europe and the Middle East.

Maliki, who is due to visit Germany this week, has suggested a timetable should be set for a U.S. withdrawal but U.S. officials have been more cautious, despite an improving security situation.

The White House said on Friday President George W. Bush and Maliki had agreed that a security deal under negotiation should set a "time horizon" for meeting "aspirational goals" for reducing U.S. forces in Iraq.

"The Americans have found it difficult to agree on a concrete timetable for the exit because it seems like an admission of defeat to them. But it isn't," Maliki told Der Spiegel.

Let's ask Bachmann, then do the opposite of whatever she says.

Whatever is decided, I bet the GOP candidates for president find a way to say it's wrong and blame Obama for it.

If NATO stays: It's a costly occupation that we can't afford
If NATO goes: We should stand by our friends in the region and make sure the evil Muslims do not take over.

Saw this on the Fox News site. http://www.foxnews.com/world/2011/10/28/swedens-immigration-debate/?test=latestnews

Some quotes:
“Sweden needs lots of immigrants,” he says, “because otherwise we can’t keep up our welfare system. We, as most parts of Europe, have too few people. Within the coming 20 years, we will have a lack of labor force, so we need more people coming to Sweden. We don’t have enough kids from ourselves.”

Another young woman, when asked about the face of Sweden changing dramatically due to massive immigration, said, “I think everything we call culture right now, it’s been so fluid throughout history. I don’t think it can be overruled like that. Everything that comes in, it just adds to the culture, it doesn’t take away.”

The future of Europe??

I hesitate even posting this...

I think Anon may have bitten off a bit more than they can chew with their latest campaign. Talk about playing with fire... They're going to get someone killed with this latest stunt. It sounds like most of their members are distancing themselves out of fear, and rightly so... Stupid, stupid, stupid.

If that's a problem, I'll help solve it.

Interesting read.

"If it was a kill mission you don't need Seal Team 6; you need a box of hand grenades."

(not to mention a chance to bump Priceless's outstanding picture).

It sounds like the European Union has been watching the National Collegiate Hockey Conference in terms of its membership.

Re: Global War on Terror III: Dick Cheney's Hague ICC Vacation

Sorry, but no tears from here. We have long since left the cold war, are overdue for a complete military overhaul focusing on today's realities rather than manning bases around the world, and just perhaps this will mean that the US taxpayer pays less than half of the world's military budget:

Panetta Warns Military Cuts Would Invite 'Aggression'

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta warned Thursday that sweeping military cuts which could be triggered by the failure of the congressional deficit committee to strike a deal "invites aggression" from abroad.

"I've warned that by cutting in excess of 20 percent in every area, (the trigger) will lead to a hollow force. And let me explain just exactly what we're talking about when we talk about hollow force. Obviously, that which is hollow retains a shell but lacks a core," he said.

"It's a ship without sailors. It's a brigade without bullets. It's an air wing without enough trained pilots. It's a paper tiger. An Army of barracks, buildings and bombs without enough trained soldiers able to accomplish the mission. It's a force that suffers low morale, poor readiness, and is unable to keep up with potential adversaries. In effect, it invites aggression," Panetta said.

Re: Global War on Terror III: Dick Cheney's Hague ICC Vacation

Aggression from whom? Terrorists don't care how big our military is: If they are going to attack, they're going to attack. The days when the evil Red Threat was going to invade the country or shower us with nuclear missiles are long gone. The Chinese? We're they're biggest customer, plus they've already beaten us economically anyway. We can slash the military budget and still have plenty of soldiers to defend the country, which is what the military is supposed to do. The military doesn't exist to project American power around the globe. This is a Republic, not an Empire.

Re: Global War on Terror III: Dick Cheney's Hague ICC Vacation

This is a Republic, not an Empire.

Are you sure? ;)

I am thinking that most of the GOP would disagree with you. Heck I am pretty sure most of them don't now it's a Republic or what that means. But an Empire sure sounds better, right?

Let me rephrase that: We aren't supposed to be an Empire, but have been since WW2. We need to go back to being a Republic, if for no other reason than we can no longer afford our Empire.

Hopefully someone reminds them that we have a massive deficit...and should be trying to cut government spending.

The fiscal cons get that. The 3G types never will.

Isolationism? We don't need to defend Europe or Japan anymore do we??

Why do we? Who are we protecting them from? The Red Menace? The Cold War is over.
