They are called sideWALK. Not sidepark or sidestore my kids stuff. You have a driveway, keep the sidewalk open!

Re: Ginding away- stop putting sand in my oil... Part 4

And then there are the people who walk down the middle of the street in my Mum's condo complex, where they have beautifuly maintained sidewalks, and give you the evil eye when they have to move to the side of the road. Grr.

Re: Ginding away- stop putting sand in my oil... Part 4

Who the hell goes over to someone's house for a large gathering when they are sick? I woke up this morning with a slgiht cough and now I think I'm coming down with something. Pretty sure I got it New Year's when a family friend came over with a cold.

THen last night (I wasn't feeling anything) we had a group of guys get together and one of the guys who organized it was at the height of a cold. Seriously. What the **** is wrong with people?

Re: Ginding away- stop putting sand in my oil... Part 4

A new group moved into the chunk of cubicles next to mine and my coworker's. There is one old guy that whistles. Every. ****ing. Day. For. Hours. What would give anyone the impression that it is OK to whistle, loudly, when you're sitting a cubicle with 30 other people around you working? I've noticed that some of the people in his group, that he sits by, all wear hearing protection ear muffs, like we're required to wear when we're in loud areas of the plant, all day sitting at their cubicles. He apparently is too dense to get the hint. I end up sitting here with my ear buds in, listening to the radio almost every day I'm in the office now. When he walks by whistling, I give him the death stare and put my ear buds in as he walks by. Its about time to just go tell him to shut the hell up.

You know what doesn't take more than three days? Scheduling a ****ing appointment. I hate it when people don't get back to you and won't give you an update, even to explain the delay.

Re: Ginding away- stop putting sand in my oil... Part 4

On the appointment kick- People who insist on making appt to be seen for cold sx when they haven't done a * thing to help themselves and then expect to get a prescription for an antibiotic just because they made an appt and made it into the exam room. Burger King is a mile down the road. They are the ones who have the slogan "Have it your way!". There is no magic bullet to stop your stuffy nose and I can't cure you because you don't want to be sick. At least try to take some effing tylenol before you insist you are dying. (Phew, that felt good!)

Not everyone is like that but when I get a bunch of people in dire medical straights and then someone who is whining because the coughed twice this morning (this is NOT an exaggeration) I want to drag them down the hall and tell them "this is what sick is!"

It's well past time. There is nothing rude about (politely) telling someone that THEY are being rude. If you just put up with it until you can't take it anymore, you are almost certain to be rude when you (or whoever) finally do say something.

That should be punishable by the death penalty.

I find the following behavior unacceptable in cubeland (and sometimes other places, but when you cram all those people close together, you need to be a little more considerate of others):

- whistling, singing or humming
- yelling over cube walls all day
- excessive throat clearing
- constant sniffling or loud snorting (blow your nose!!)
- talking with food in mouth
- loud, open-mouth chewing
- saying "ahhhhhhhh" after every sip of a beverage
- not muting the computer
- not putting cell phones on vibrate
- loud talking, especially while on personal phone calls
- coming in while sick
- having a long discussion outside someone's cube
- staring at other people around you
- peeking into people's cube when you walk past
- inserting yourself into conversations that do not involve you

Full disclosure: I have the following annoying habits in my cube: I am sometimes a loud typer, I often mutter "effing idiot" or otherwise curse under my breath, sometimes I sigh or make a Marge Simpson grrrrr noise, and I absently chew my hair (which happens to be noiseless, so boo hoo on that, but someone actually commented on it once).

Some of these don't sound annoying.... until you sit by someone that does it allllllllll day long (or maybe I am just an intolerant *****). I think I was not meant to be near other people all day. They never approved my construction plan for the soundproof bubble and I can't wear headphones at work. But I hate working from home. What a dilemma. I definitely feel your pain.

I think Jen needs to take a shovel to the office.

You wouldn't last 2 hours at my office. :p

Re: Ginding away- stop putting sand in my oil... Part 4

The last two items happen all the time. Company of 350 people, and we're only permitted to book 6 of our 9 conference rooms (3 are boardrooms for "big" meetings between higher-ups and clients). Cube meetings are inevitable when it's just you and one or two others. They're currently building out a third floor, which should have a few more rooms to temporarily alleviate the congestion, until they hire another 150 people by the end of the year, and we're back to square one.

I'm glad I have my own office. Otherwise I'd probably be committed.
