Re: Ginding away- stop putting sand in my oil... Part 4

I don't understand why this was funny.

There are no Cubs fans at games...just idiots in Cubs jersies getting drunk in the bleachers. :)

The fans at Wrigley care more about being at Wrigley than they do about the team on the field...everyone knows that ;)

Nope. Not everyone knows that. Only the cynical jackarses who are more concerned with the people around them than the game know that (and it's jerseys, by the way).

Re: Ginding away- stop putting sand in my oil... Part 4

Handy and I agree. Also, we're both Gopher hockey fans. We recognize people that are there just to be seen when we see them. ;)

Well yeah, there are a lot of drunk idiots. Probably more than most places. But of course, it's a cooler place to be than most places. But if you ACTUALLY paid attention, you would realize that, like all ballparks, there are also a LOT of people there watching the games. But if you choose to be a cynical *****, you can just make fun of how only drunk idiots show up.

Re: Ginding away- stop putting sand in my oil... Part 4

No Wrigley IS mostly tourist types, drunks, and those that go only to be seen. If it was made up of fans, attendance would fluctuate more like it does at the Cell just down the Dan Ryan.

Yes, there are true Cubbie blue fans that go to the games, but they've done a Hell of a good job of marketing it as a social event. For well over a decade now.

If it was about the fans and the team record, they'd have a ton more W's. But the Cubs and Pirates have successfully turned losing into a financial windfall.

No. It's not MOSTLY that, that's what MOSTLY noticeable. The Cubs have a LOT more fans than most teams. If you go to just abut any ball park in the country, when the Cubs are the visiting team, there is a spike in attendance. That's not for image. That's because people like the Cubs.

Yes. You really should lighten up a bit. God forbid someone point out that your idiotic comment was idiotic. As for me, I have no problem with you thinking whatever stupidity you want to think, but calling bs (you didn't say MOST people are there to be seen, you implied heavily that ALL are there to be seen, which is just stupid) doesn't mean I'm taking it seriously. I'm just calling bs. I dxo find it interesting that you're such a pathetic person that when someone disagrees with you about something that, quite obviously no one actually cares much about, you assume that the person is insulted. You saying dumb stuff doesn't insult me, it just looks dumb.

I am not the one upset man, you are the one calling me pathetic and other names because I made a joke about Cubs fans. I couldnt be more "light" about it. And of course it is stupid, THAT IS THE POINT!! Its called a joke, ya know taking pot shots at other teams fanbases...like saying all Wisconsin fans are drunk and screwing dead deer or Gopher fans are preppy frontrunners or Michigan fans only know two songs or UND fans are...well that is really all you need to say. It is absurd, it is a generalization, it is also meant to elicit a laugh out of everyone but said fanbase and get a witty retort from that fanbase. Its fun.

If you feel the need to insult me personally because of it then it just shows you are taking things a bit too seriously. Your choice of course just dont tell me I need to lighten up, the whole point of the joke was to be lighthearted not act as a treatise on the day to day thoughts and lives of the average Cub Fan.

Now stop grinding my gears already and go sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" :)

This does make me chuckle. :)

Asking to take vacation 6 months ahead of time and being told no because "I'm sure other people will want to take those days off".

That is pretty ridiculous. Does your company have a policy regarding vacation time? If so, I'd recommend taking a look at it and seeing if its a "first one to ask is the first one to get vacation time" as is common in most workplaces, I think. If it is, tell your supervisor to shove it, and you'll be taking those days off unless someone else has already requested them off.

It's a combination of who asks first and seniority. The problem is that at what point do I find out of I can take off? I asked six months ahead of time so that I would make it clear to senior employees that I'd like the time off and it's something they should think about in their planning/requesting time off.

Additionally, my last "vacation" I asked two months ahead of time and was told that I would still be responsible for the same workloads and that I would need to be available via email during my vacation. It stunk. It's just another reason I'm looking for a new job.

People who accept (or reject) an Outlook meeting request, but choose the option to not send a reply to the meeting organizer. Hey arsehat, I'd really like to know if you plan on coming or not!

You can always use the schedule tracker to see who has accepted or declined. I don't send a response when I respond causei dont want to spam other people

True. I should have also mentioned the people that see your invite, don't respond at all, and then you have to track them down to see whether they're coming or not. That's what happened this morning. Guy doesn't respond at all (I checked the tracker) and the meeting time comes and goes and i just assume he didn't get the email so i went on to something else. He shows up to my desk 10 minutes later asking why I haven't started our meeting yet. Gears=grinding.

Re: Ginding away- stop putting sand in my oil... Part 4

As long as I'm railing on about Outlook, go ahead and add people who use colored/patterned backgrounds on their emails. I may have ranted about this before but I find it totally unprofessional. You want to put a colorful/flowery/kitty/doggie/annoying background on your emails? Fine. Do that on your personal email. If you do this with your work emails, I have news for you: Everyone you send email to, hates that you do this. You're not quirky or unique. You're annoying.

Normal font. White background. Change it now.

Re: Ginding away- stop putting sand in my oil... Part 4

Count your blessings. It could be worse. We use Lotus Notes.

I dream of the days I can return to Outlook.
