Gender Studies I

If The Advocate (which is run by LGBTQ, including trans, not just cis) calls her a TERF, then she's a TERF.

As for the rest, your anger is completely misdirected. Being trans does not remove the constraint of being logical. You have special knowledge within certain spheres, but you are not magically omniscient.

Yeah I don’t think anyone here is arguing so I don’t get the anger.

Maybe I’m really obtuse or maybe it’s because I don’t give a crap about HP but I also don’t hear people arguing about this off the board.

Re: Gender Studies I

MT has been through a lot. I think some anger/frustration is to be expected, especially with COVID lockdown messing with her ability to see others in her community and support system. And let's be honest, Dump will do whatever Pence and Miller tell him to do on the LGBTQ+ front, and there's still plenty of time for damage to be done.

Not only that, a lot of us trans people hurt and upset by her rhetoric, and with nowhere to go with our anger, it's coming out.

Re: Gender Studies I

Is Miller crazy transphobic/homophobic too? I wouldn't be at all surprised but I think of him mostly for the racism train.

Re: Gender Studies I

Today, a wonderful woman from my job stood up from behind the desk, came out, and held me for about a minute. She's been my work place Mama Bear ever since I got to Centria.

On the way home, I stopped to pick up some breast inserts (it makes them look a little bigger) from my best friend's apartment. As I picked up the bag, I sighed and turned to walk back down the stairs. She said "come here," and she also held me for about a minute. Then she asked her partner if she wanted one. Kelly said yes. I drove home feeling happy.

What you don't understand is that our Pride events: Cancelled. Day of Visibility: Cancelled. My trans group has been reduced to Zoom. Out On the Lakeshore is closed to the public right now. My church holds online services via Facebook, but it's not the same as getting Mama hugs on Sunday mornings.

Re: Gender Studies I

And I have to laugh. I adjusted the filter on OK Cupid from "men and women" to just "women." My total number of likes dropped from 250+ to 16.

Re: Gender Studies I

You just demonstrated that the ((het male) + (lesbian/bi female)) / (lesbian/bi female) ratio on OK Cupid is 250/16 = 15.6 : 1, which means there are 14.6x the number of het males as there are lesbian/bi females. That actually seems... about right.

Figuring the gay population is roughly 10%, that would imply about a 3:2 ratio of men to women on OK Cupid. TBH I'd have thought it was way higher.

Dumb Olds question: do lesbians use Grindr or is it strictly for the boy/boy bow-chicka-bow-wow?

Also:

Hormones did not leave me with much in terms of breasts, and this makes me sad. When I mention that my 38AAs make me sad and I'm looking to get them augmented, a few cis women have told me to stop complaining, which makes me feel even worse.

Boob size seems to be like curly vs straight hair: for every woman with straight hair who wishes it was curly there's one with curly hair who wishes it was straight.

Yes, but for all us trans girls, boob size is extremely important. Two of my best friends went in for augmentation already. I'm going when I have finances and time.

One of my supervisors at work got defensive when I corrected her on my pronouns.

Pro tip: when a trans person corrects you on their pronouns, don't get defensive, and don't martyr yourself either. Just say "sorry, I messed up," and move on.

I'm also laughing at this notion that trans women can't be feminists. Whoever thinks this has never spent time with trans women. In fact, if you do think this, you get 5, a 10, and a game misconduct. Someone will be notifying you of your suspension soon.

It's right up there with Graham Linehan's absurd notion that trans women don't date each other.

To people who were young this millennium: do kids still play spin the bottle? And if they do, do they still observe the "no same sex kiss" rule or are they lightening up?

I last played spin the bottle during the Nixon administration (2nd term, jerks); 2 boys and 2 girls, which made it less interesting, and the rule was nearest member of the opposite sex, which I suppose made it really less interesting. But in my elementary and middle school years the absolute worst insult you could come up with was "gay," and demanded immediate physical retaliation. I have heard that the latter is no longer much of a thing, and in fact the phobe will more than likely find himself (and it's always a guy) shunned. But then again my sources are not exactly from a cross-section of American utes, so that may not be the case in the backwaters.
