ok, this one has been bugging me for a long...long...time. Just late in mentioning it.

Autotrophs do NOT drool.

Thank you.

The people who think Mercury being in retrograde is the source of all their misery.

Re: Gear Grinding Part 5: The Story of the Broken Tooth

Cost of attending a wedding.

Most of the costs are because I'm actually in the wedding, I.e. Tux, bachelor party, etc. but geez, I just calculated it and unless he's spending 45k on this thing I'm pretty sure I'm paying more to be in it than he's paying for me to be there, and I don't even have to travel.

On the bright side, I don't have to cover the costs of the 200 people or however many he said he was inviting. So I got that going for me, which is nice.

$45k!?

HFS.

That's about what my sister's wedding cost.

My dad offered her a week vacation in Hawaii, all expenses paid, to not put everyone through the big wedding. She insisted on the big wedding.

And of course I was a groomsman so I got to shell out a whole paycheck on a flight from Alaska, tux rental, etc.

I've already promised my family that if I ever meet Distaff!Twitch and get myself hitched, I'm not putting them through that. Sign the marriage paperwork, simple vows in a park or something with the officiant and the immediate families present, maybe a small reception with drinks, maybe party at my place, that's it.

That's what the ex and I were planning. Ceremony in a park = family and 2-3 friends on each side, then a reception for about 100 people max, with a bunch of pizzas delivered and some booze. She had a photographer friend that offered her services as a present, and I had a DJ friend who did the same.

Pssst, that won't be your decision to make.

Re: Gear Grinding Part 5: The Story of the Broken Tooth

My world would be so much happier if everyone on the planet was required to take (and pass) a reading comprehension class.

The phrase "if it hasn't already been assigned, I will probably have time"

does NOT mean that it should be RE-ASSIGNED to me when it was already assigned to someone else. which word did you not understand? it was a one-line email. was it that hard to read it AND comprehend it? take an extra 2 seconds to think and process before you reply.

which relates to the bigger issue that people are so quick to talk and make sure they get their 2 cents in and "get heard" that they don't bother LISTENING. this really, really annoys me. I try to make an effort to listen and understand before I reply.

If you're going to floss at the office, clean out the sink when you're done.

Pretty much the same thing we did. Got married in front of a judge with about 25-30 family members and friends. Small reception at a local hotel with a DJ and cash bar. That was 21 years ago. Still going strong.

Today's gear grinder: people who turn right on red without regard to whatever traffic might be bearing down on them from those who actually DO have the right-of-way.

I've been pulled over for that. Cop warned me that I didn't have enough time/space to turn.

If you are standing in the lunch line and it's your turn to order, put down your *^#&*#@ phone and order, or step aside and let the next person go!

I know that I can only expect so much from a 6-week-old, but newborn babies are *******s.

I have work in the morning, son!
