No one was doing the trunk version that I knew of before I moved 3 years ago.

Central Iowa, and specifically the Des Moines area, has beggars night. Kids go trick or treating the night before Halloween for some stupid reason.

CHurches do it here as sort of an outreach. Schools too. A way to get everyone together to meet.

A lot of/Some Christians hold that Halloween is the Devil's work because its origins are found in pagan rituals and myth.

Detroit (and other cities in MI) call this Devil's Night. Usually results in Detroit happening.

These f-cktards were fairly common at my daughter's high school in MD. Not enough to get stuff banned, but enough to raise a stink and whine "help, help I'm being oppressed because I can't force my views on everyone."

I remember the first conversation I ever had with one of these people. It was at my high school in the 80's, and she had been an elementary school friend I lost track of for about six years (turns out her nutbar parents were homeschooling her). She went on a passionate rant about how it was "proven fact" that the Earth is only 6000 years old and evolution is a hoax and Halloween is the work of the literal devil. I thought she was mentally ill until I learned there is a whole culture that peddles that sh-t.

I thought Devil's Night was something else -- a sort of "Ultra-violence Halloween" where you actually commit serious vandalism because hurr hurr.

Huh. It's specifically Detroit. And white Detroit, at that.

Apparently this is now A Thing.

Basically, it's G-rated Halloween for the kids, because Halloween has become get drunk til more blood and vomit run in the streets than on a normal Wednesday morning in Kenmore Square.

Ironic considering certain Christian holidays have overtaken their Pagan beginnings. See: Christmas, Example A.

I wouldn't say it's ironic. Halloween has no religious ties to Christians, it's purely a secular tradition morphed over from its pagan Irish roots. The Christian holidays that are based around pagan roots were all, as they claim, simply moved from their "factual" dates to help convert the heathens.

All Hallows Eve. 11/1 (at least to Catholics) is All Saints Day. 11/2 is All Souls Day. Both have lost their significance in the last 50+ years.

Yep, I remember Devil's Night on the local news. Mostly arson or graffiti of abandoned properties.

In the burbs, it was egging of parked cars, smashing windows, toilet papering trees, etc.

I am in a meeting with someone? Who is supposed to be the subject expert on this topic? But you wouldn't know it? From his inflections at the end of every single sentence?
