Re: Gear Grinding 7: Really? This crap again?

There is an east-west street on the near North Side of Chicago named after the famous German poet and philosopher. If you want the bus driver to stop there, you better call it GO-thee. (definitely not geh-ta).

In Greenwich Village, it is HOW-sten Street, HUE-ston is in Texas, not Manhattan.

In Michigan, the town of Charlotte is not pronounced like every other Charlotte. Instead, it's (shar-LOT), and there's always extra emphasis put on the "lot."

Vermont has one of those Charlottes, pronounced the same way

I thought I heard it was actually "cal-GARY" also, but not sure.

Our sheriffs are getting the runaround and wasting a lot of resources because of... gofundme.com. Anytime you see a sob story relayed by the likes of Facebook, drudge, huff post, etc. be sure you're not being conned before sending cash. People suck. (They involve sympathetic victims like hungry kids and unverifiable/unidentifiable evil doers)

I just don't give on sites like that. I don't give unless it's a reputable charity for that matter.

<---- This! (pretend the arrow points up) There are absolutely people who are intolerant, who have issues when they eat gluten (or food dyes, or a myriad of other things) there are also people who say they are gluten intolerant except they can eat X which usually is something they don't want to give up that is chock full of gluten. It mysteriously is 'fine' to eat, they don't know why. Or they eat large volumes of garbage food usually but when they are gluten free can't find the volume of trashy food they would normally consume and say gluten is the problem. Those who are skeptics see the inconsistencies and immediately dismiss all of it as bunk. Makes it much more difficult for those with legit problems.

https://www.amazon.com/Survival-Sickest-Surprising-Connections-Longevity/dp/0060889667 This has some very interesting theories on why some people are intolerant to certain foods/situations when others thrive in them. Lil les had to read it for AP Bio. It is fascinating.

This. Or in the beer groups I'm in (they have held sales of personal cellared beers and given to a person in need who is part of the group).

Gullibility. It's amazing how far it reaches.

Meeting organizers who call meetings over lunch without providing lunch but still calling them lunch and learns.

Stop lying. Those are brown bag and learns. Also, stop being cheap.

Come to the financial industry. We [don't] have cookies.

That happens all the time here. Unless everyone involved in that meeting is on the same project with a tight timeline, you don't schedule it over the 12:00 hour. Except for the plethora of jerks who do.
