Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

Re: Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

We still have no idea what the hell Brienne intends to do to protect Sansa if she got her. I can't remember if at this point in her story in the books if she's aware that Lysa is dead (although she really ought to be, right?) and therefore I can't be sure what her plan is there either.
The answer, I believe, comes from one of the Begging Brothers.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

After the way Jorah was looking at whore Dani, I imagine he is looking for any way to get back into her good graces again.
I took it that way too.

Also, Little Finger has to be one of the most conniving, self-serving, manipulative, characters on any show I've ever watched...

It's been a while since I read the chapter, but that's the one where it ends with her saying that she'll save Sansa or die trying, right?

I guess I still don't recall from that what she would intend to do once she finds Sansa and "saves" her. Maybe she hasn't really said/thought it in her chapters, or maybe she just doesn't have one because she's so motivated by duty/honor/whatever that it just hasn't occurred to her to have a plan (kind of fitting for the character, really). But seriously... what does she think she'll do? Take her to to Tarth?

Re: Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

I don't think that Littlefinger is going to follow through with it. I think he has something else up his sleeve. He has shown too much affection for Sansa, and with the history with Catelyn, to leave her with the Boltons. He has something else planned that we haven't seen yet.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

Theory, no book spoilers, at least I don't think there are:

I heard this theory at one point last season, before the High Sparrow was introduced, and now that we have seen him on screen, I thought I would mention it. In my opinion, this has a pretty small likelihood of being correct, but it is interesting nonetheless.

The theory is that the High Sparrow is actually Howland Reed (Jojen and Meera's father). We haven't seen Howland Reed before, and there is much speculation that he has a large role to play in the last several seasons/books of the series. He would be loyal to the north and the Starks, still. It would go along with the whole "The North Remembers" potential storyline.

Oh yes, the character in question will absolutely have a large role to play. And it will be quite delicious (initially, at least :)).

Re: Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

Watched this week's episode a day late, due to the hockey game on Sunday night.

I really like this episode, my favorite of the season so far. So much **** is brewing.

The Wall.
The Stannis scene with his daughter was a great scene. It showed Stannis's character with much more depth. Jon's in a tough spot, obviously. I am not sure what he is going to do. There is a ton of pressure on him to march south. I don't think he's break his vows, but who knows at this point. Also, it seems Melisandre definitely knows Jon's parentage....which will be interesting. Also, loved her "You know nothing, Jon Snow", great end to that scene.

Kings Landing
This storyline has really accelerated. It looks like Mace Tyrell is not long for this life. Loras is locked away. Tommen is completely clueless. The Sparrows were going to be interesting sooner, rather than later, and this episode they took several steps. As this progresses, I think it only will get better. I think Cersei will be seeing some blowback fairly soon.

Winterfell
My favorite scene of the episode was the one between Sansa and Littlefinger. So much going on there. Lots of hints about....stuff. ;) Littlefinger is cementing himself as one of my favorite characters. He might be the only person in the GoT universe that really knows how to play the Game of Thrones. He is always several steps ahead of everyone else. I really hope he's not on the kill list, which means he won't make it through the season. If he does survive, I could now see him actually getting to the Iron Throne. Also, there is definitely something more between Sansa and Littlefinger, I think Sansa has decided that she's sticking with him, and she is now OK with the prospect of potentially marrying him at some point in the future.

Dorne
Bronn was awesome, as usual. The big development was the full introduction of the Sand Snakes. Obara is ****ing badass. They are going to raise some hell, and it is going to be awesome.

Mereen
The Sons of Harpy stuff has come to a head. I really liked Barristan, sad to see him die, but, Thrones is gonna Thrones. Dany is in a precarious position at this point, and now, I'm guessing Jorah is going to be a welcomed sight, just to get more trusted advisers around her. The Jorah-Tyrion scene was good, and Tyrion has a point, he will talk circles around Jorah. I am really looking forward to Tyrion's arrival in Mereen. Question: Are Jorah and the eunuch in this together? Is the "road to Mereen" actually Jorah Mormont?

Re: Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

So... are they teasing that R+L=J is actually true or what?

I mean, it's not much of a stretch. Probably one of the more "obviously true" fan theories out there. I'm not sure that you can make an argument against it without reaching a little bit.

I think it is pretty obvious at this point that they're pointing directly at that. If it isn't true, they're at the point now that they'll have to work to get out of the box that they've made.

It was obviously hinted at in 2 scenes this episode.

I mean, it's been quite obviously hinted at in the books ever since Ned's Tower of Joy flashback while he was high off his gourd on milk of the poppy after his confrontation with Jaime.

Right, but on the TV show, I don't remember anything too obvious until now. The question has been asked, but there wasn't too many hints about what the answer to that question actually is.

Yeah, I think you're right. They've barely touched on it in the show, and I can only think of a singular faint hint (one that's even less obvious than what's in the corresponding chapter in the book) in the second season finale.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

I don't imagine that Daario is going to be too happy with Dany's most recent decision.

Jorah and Tyrion was good TV again. I called Drogon being in Valyria. It made too much sense. I wonder how fast greyscale spreads?

The Stannis vs. Roose battle is going to be good.

Something not good is going to come from Miranda, she's evil.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

I think something not good is coming TO Miranda as well. No way Ramsay doesn't know who told Sansa where to find Theon.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

They just got through hundreds of pages of Tyrion's trip through Essos in like 3 scenes. Nice.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

I'm calling it now, Ramsey Bolton will be amongst the list of dead people before the season is out. It's coming to the point in the story where not only the ruthless survive, but those who are ruthless, cunning and careful about their moves and goading of other characters will survive the game. Ramsey is ruthless, but he's showing by his treatment of Sansa that he's neither cunning nor careful in his actions. A smarter move for him to have taken would've been to tell Sansa that he'd kept Theon/Reek from her so as to not make her uncomfortable, then Sansa couldn't report anything negative in his treatment of her back to Little Finger when the time comes. While nobody other than Sansa has any true idea of the scope as to how/what Baelish operates, the Boltons should have some idea based upon the arrangement of Sansa's marriage and his dealings with King's Landing.

Also, I'm expecting John to suffer some sort of big loss during his trip north of the Wall, even though he'll come back alive and the mission largely a success.

I agree on Ramsey. I don't know how it would happen, but I wouldn't be surprised if Brienne is responsible for his end.

On Jon, I don't know what he could lose north of the wall, no one that he is actually close to is going with him. The closest is Tormund, but if he died, I wouldn't consider it a huge loss for Jon. I have to think that Jon has to stay around for a little while longer. What is the point of the whole R+L=J stuff being hinted if they kill him off?
