Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

Re: Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

Some of it is probably using current actors for some events instead of having to hire new ones like Martin did for characters in the books 4/5

Re: Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

So episode 2 was a bit slow again, building up the story. This doesn't bother me, because I like the small plot points.

We got an introduction to Doran Martell, with references to the Sand Snakes...still haven't seen the Sand Snakes though.
Arya is now with the Men Without Faces for her training.
Dany is still sucking at ruling, but Drogon has come back, so maybe she can get on with the whole training the dragons stuff.
They took about 4 minutes to get through, and gloss over, the whole Night's Watch commander election. Some plot differences there, but nothing too egregious.
Jamie is going to Dorne, to get Myrcella, bringing Bronn with him. (I think this is a difference from the books, but I haven't read far enough to know for sure)
The power struggle in King's Landing is heating up. I really liked the interaction between Cersei and Kevan in the small council meeting. I imagine Qyburn is going to cause some **** to go down. Waiting on more from the Faith Militant.
Tyrion is going to meet Dany. Maybe Tyrion knows how to train dragons, afterall, he has been reading about them, and intrigued with them for his whole life.
Brienne and Pod / Sansa and Littlefinger....I don't even know what is going on here, seems to be a huge change from the books.

(possible spoilers in white, below)
Still no Lady Stoneheart....I'm a bit disappointed in this.

I thought it was a great episode for character. Granted, I generally prefer slow to red weddings. ;)

This episode helped me remember why I love Daenerys so much. I'm a little disappointed that the "secret" knowledge we've all had -- that Daenerys is the only able ruler and Tyrion the most able advisor -- is now so explicit, but maybe that's because it marks the shift in the show from "characters figuring out what to do" to "characters making it happen," which means we've just moved past the 50-yard line and I don't want the show to ever end. :)

Anyway, I'm happy the quality of writing has continued to be so good. And I'm happy the third dragon is back.

I've only read through book 3, so things are starting to progress past the point where I have any knowledge.

With that said, I'm predicting that Dany will continue to do everything with only the best of intentions and yet she'll * it all up somehow.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

I think, at this point, the 2 storylines I'm most interested in for the rest of this season are at the Wall and Arya.

I am interested to see what happens with Jon Snow as Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, and what happens with the Wildlings. I'm assuming that this election means that the Wildlings will be allowed to pass through the wall so they're protected from the Others. I'm sure that, even as Lord Commander, Jon will see quite a bit of opposition. Also, what is going to happen with Stannis now? I am guessing that he will begin to march south at some point, but he still needs to beef up his army, I don't see anyone in the north that will align with him. Where is Rickon? With the Umbers? The Karstarks? I could see Stannis coming across him at some point.

I think Arya's training with the Men Without Faces is going to be awesome. I can't wait to see where her character ends up. I hope we make some good progress on her storyline this season, so I don't have to wait too long for some payoff.

Lastly, the Greyjoys have been very quiet last season and the start of this one. Are we going to get back to them in the series? I know there is more about them in the books, but I haven't read far enough to know what it is.

We know that Theon is in place at Motte, showing up there as Ramsay Bolton's toy/Trojan horse. His sister left to return to the Iron Islands, and Balon Greyjoy has not been announced but his situation should be revealed shortly. Balon's situation is one of the departures from the books that surprises me most.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

Dax was a woman. Prince Doran was played by Alexander Siddig, who played Dr. Bashir, according to IMDB.

My mistake, I thought he was placed into Bashir after he left Jadzia. Not sure why. For being off the air for more than 15 years, I'd say I was close enough.

Also, IIRC, Dax is a male who was hosted by two females in the series.

I can't say that I watched enough of the series to know. I just remember DAX being the eye candy for the nerds. I had to use IMDB for the Dr. Bashir bit.

So we have to be getting back to Balon soon, right? As I understand it, him and his family have a big role in the books, that hasn't been touched on in the series, unless that is going to be one of the huge departures from the source material.

Sorry, I don't presume to know what ultimately becomes of Balon Greyjoy in the show, only what's known of him through book 3, which is roughly where we are with happenings playing out on the show right now.

Hidden Book Spoilers

I thought that we're way off from the book timing with regards to Balon. As I remember, Balon is still alive in the TV show, and in the books, he actually dies before the Red Wedding happens.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

bbdl, yes, that's the gist of it for the differences in Balon's storyline thus far.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

I'm kinda missing the Arya/Hound traveling road show though. And while the Pod/Brienne roadshow is fun, it doesn't quite match up to the Jamie/Brienne show.

Although the Bronn/Jamie traveling road show has great promise.

I'm expecting good things to come from Varys and Tyrion. Their road to Mereen won't be smooth and even once they get there, I'm sure they'll have a hard time gaining acceptance from Dany.

What? You mean a Targaryen isn't going to welcome a Lannister with open arms?
