Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

Re: Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

So episode 2 was a bit slow again, building up the story. This doesn't bother me, because I like the small plot points.

We got an introduction to Doran Martell, with references to the Sand Snakes...still haven't seen the Sand Snakes though.
Arya is now with the Men Without Faces for her training.
Dany is still sucking at ruling, but Drogon has come back, so maybe she can get on with the whole training the dragons stuff.
They took about 4 minutes to get through, and gloss over, the whole Night's Watch commander election. Some plot differences there, but nothing too egregious.
Jamie is going to Dorne, to get Myrcella, bringing Bronn with him. (I think this is a difference from the books, but I haven't read far enough to know for sure)
The power struggle in King's Landing is heating up. I really liked the interaction between Cersei and Kevan in the small council meeting. I imagine Qyburn is going to cause some **** to go down. Waiting on more from the Faith Militant.
Tyrion is going to meet Dany. Maybe Tyrion knows how to train dragons, afterall, he has been reading about them, and intrigued with them for his whole life.
Brienne and Pod / Sansa and Littlefinger....I don't even know what is going on here, seems to be a huge change from the books.

We did meet one of the Sand Snakes - she who was brave enough to talk big to Doran's badass #1 swordsman.

The Brienne / Pod / Sansa / Littlefinger thing is so far off the rails (hundreds of leagues away from the literary version) that it's distracting.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

Brienne's search for Sansa resolved in one scene what GRRM still hasn't done in hundreds of pages over a couple of books.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

Distracting in that you find it silly or distracting in that it's too different from the books?

Brienne's search for Sansa resolved in one scene what GRRM still hasn't done in hundreds of pages over a couple of books.
A little of both, Exile. While the rendezvous may occur in a chapter I've yet to read, I think we're cheated from some good moments, including an awesome and defining cliffhanger involving Brienne (ha ha ha - that's actually a good pun in this case), if indeed the screenwriters are skipping ahead to this inn scene. Even Pod has quite a heroic moment I would have loved for them to include. Two episodes and not one great battle scene?

So for those who looking for some action, and for the guy who white-fonted that statement about the M.I.A. mysterious character that's been hinted at in this thread, here's hoping that the writers have just messed with switching the chronology a bit and we'll get those satisfying events in a week or two.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

Cersei is already plotting how she can kill the Queen and have it look like an accident...

Re: Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

Cersei's freaked out, reflecting upon the future told to her by witch, and trying to change it.

Arya's not going to like her time at the House of Black and White as much as she'd anticipated.

John Snow took care of Janos Slynt in a most satisfying way. It made me happy to see him handled that way rather than through some more devious manner. Naming his First Ranger was also a stroke of political savvy that I didn't expect.

Sucks to be Sansa, though I can't say any ill that befalls her causes me any discomfort. While she's not done anything to deserve a nasty situtation, her inaction has led her to be in such a situation. I'm expecting one of the castle's maids to either kill her or be killed herself in the process out of jealousy, that much was foreshadowed quite heavily last night.

How far does Ser Jaros Mormont take Tyrion before that situation rights itself?

Janos, the baby killer, craven and all-around despicable person, got his rich reward.

Having not read a sufficient distance into Dance w/ Dragons, I actually wonder to WHICH queen Jorah would most like to present Tyrion: The one who will take him back for loyalty, or the one who will give him gold and a minor lordship.

I assumed the only queen he recognized was Dany, but this is an interesting idea. He could try to cross the narrow sea and return him to Cersei. However, would he recognize her as queen? I think it far more likely he'll take Tyrion to Dany.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

After the way Jorah was looking at whore Dani, I imagine he is looking for any way to get back into her good graces again.

I assumed as much, though I think we interpreted his reaction differently (you seem to suggest lust; I saw repentance). When he said "I'm taking you to the queen," I had no doubt he meant Daenerys, not Cersei.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

I'm thinking Sansa really wishes she'd gone with Brienne right about now.

Re: Game of Thrones, Season V: Arya Ready?

Why would she bring her to King's Landing? That's not protecting her...

We still have no idea what the hell Brienne intends to do to protect Sansa if she got her. I can't remember if at this point in her story in the books if she's aware that Lysa is dead (although she really ought to be, right?) and therefore I can't be sure what her plan is there either.

Not lust. More of a longing and regret. I think he actually did/does love Dany, and he's in pain, heartbroken. Seeing the whore brought it to surface i saw pain on his face.

Then we agree. I think he was seeing something special bastardized by commerce, and recognizing that there are almost no chances to represent something honorable in the humdrum world.
