I loved the place for all the great memories I had there as a child, but it needed to go. It was an eyesore for that neighborhood. Now maybe if we actually have accountable city leaders we might actually end up with something productive on corner instead of dollar stores and wig shops that have taken over this city.

I went to a Tigers/Red Sox game there in 1998 and was stunned when I returned in 2005 and saw the stadium still standing, years after it closed. I was hoping to see it again next week. Too bad. It was a great, great ballpark and I was glad to have seen a game there back in the day.

It was an amazing place. My absolute earliest memory is being 4 years old and walking across the ramp that seemed magically suspended in mid-air that took you to the upper deck stands. I can still remember the way it looked, and smelled. Even in the last few years walking by it or watching it be demolished rekindled all the old memories. She will be missed, that is for sure.

It's kinda hard to preserve a building of that type. There were no windows to close or anything. There was just steel and concrete to rust and crumble. It's not like we needed another stadium, and doing something other than hosting baseball games would have been a smack in the face to the history of The Corner.

I'm hoping they still continue to look at using the field for little league baseball and use the Michigan avenue side for shops that will benefit the residents of the Corktown neighborhood.

It has the best ice in North America, the best views in the NHL, and houses the winningest franchise in the United States. However I think we need a new arena.The place was poorly designed and outdated the minute it opened. The bathrooms are small and inadequate, the concourse is tight, and the suites lack the ability to produce major revenue. This city needs a world class arena for our world class team. It would also benefit the city by providing an opportunity to expand our convention center and develop key riverfront property.

I love The Joe (aka Munn Arena East) for what the great memories of college hockey, and stanley cup championships, but like Tiger Stadium...sometimes it's time to move on.

Sounds like the Metrodome here. Once the novelty wore off people realized "Hey this stadium is bad"

Well good luck with that giving the Detroit/Michigan/US economy in general. I know the Vikings are kicking themselves that they didn't get a stadium like the Gophers and Twins.

I absolutely loved TCF (except the outcome of the game) during my visit last fall. I hope to catch a game at the new Target Field this season if it works into my trip to the twin cities. The Vikings will be in the same positiion as the Red Wings...there are too many stadiums in the market at this point, and given the economic factors- asking for public money will be impossible.

Detroit now has:
2- 20,000 seat arenas
2- 65,000+ seat domes
1- 40,000 seat stadium
3- 10,000 seat arena

Only 2 of those use completely private $ for operation, so it is unlikely we will see any new "public" venues in the near future.

Well the Vikings are far worse off. They have been the most popular team in MN and the Dakotas for most of their existence (I would argue the Twins are more popular now however), and yet they rank near the bottom of profitability and value in the NFL. The Metrodome is limiting their financial capabilities, while I am not sure the same can be said about the Red Wings.
