Frozen Four 2015 Where do we go from here?

Re: Frozen Four 2015 Where do we go from here?

See you all in the Twin Cities in either 2015 or 2016 now that the University of Minnesota has two venues where they can bid to host either a Regional, or a Frozen Four. Thanks NCHC for getting the Target Center to upgrade their hockey hosting capabilities, looks like you guys forgot to consider the law of unintended consequences when picking a venue/ location for your post-season conference tournament. If the Gophers don't get the bid to host the 2015 Frozen Four at the X, they will put in a bid to host the 2015 West Regional at the Target Center, and bid to host the Frozen Four in 2016.

Re: Frozen Four 2015 Where do we go from here?

Nashville is in the west. Just ask Gary Bettman.

I would set up a rotation between Boston, St Paul, Denver, Tampa and every fifth year choose a wildcard city. If a city does a great job they can join the rotation.

From a personal perspective I would prefer arenas that have their crap together. Pittsburgh need not apply.

No thank you! Half the time you host UMD wins a title ;)

oh, and I don't know if mookie's suggestion of NOLA was a joke but I would love a FF there. I don't know a sporting event that has been held there that isn't a smashing success. And it would give me an excuse to travel "The City of New Orleans" line on Amtrak. :)

Re: Frozen Four 2015 Where do we go from here?

I go every year and I can't figure out what's going on with Boston. There are dozens of Division I programs within a stone's throw of TD Banknorth and we haven't been there in 9 years. The only thing I can think of is Boston is not bidding. I don't get it though. You don't need a city to bid, you need a program. You mean to tell me if one of the Beanpot schools bid, TD Banknorth, the Bruins and/or the city of Boston wouldn't be on board?

Oh well...I'm very excited to hear where we'll be going next. Along with Boston, I'm hoping for a warm weather site. Also, I'm with Greyeagle, I would love it if they went to Chicago. The problem with Chicago is who is going to bid? I would assume Wisconsin will always bid for Milwaukee but who knows? Could Notre Dame bid for Chicago or would they go for Indianapolis? Would UAA or UAF be interested in bidding for San Jose? How about Kansas City for Neb-Omaha? Anyway, looking forward to the announcement.

Re: Chicago...

Rather than 'UC or bust...' why not Allstate Arena?

Holds approx. 16,600 (3K less than United Center, just 1,700 less than Consol EC) for hockey...easy access for those flying in with O'Hare (literally) right across I-90...downtown Chicago is only about 45 minutes away on the blue line (which has 3 stops within the Rosemont city limits)...plenty of hotels and restaurants nearby due to its proximity to ORD...

DePaul already plays its home basketball at Allstate- call their ACHA DII team the host.

The NHL does make a profit on the hockey tournament so that is probably a pressing thing. Of course, that's up to the arena to bid. That being said, I think a non-NHL arena will be a stretch when the event is a guaranteed sell out.

DePaul doesn't need to make a claim for a hockey team, either club or varsity, to be the host team on record for an NCAA Division I tournament event. As long as the school is classified Division I (or plays Division I in the sport), they are eligible to be the host for a Division I championship event; Navy was the host for the DC Frozen Four in 2009. Recent bids for the Alamodome in San Antonio were put up by the UT-San Antonio Roadrunners.

And the other half the Gophers win...I think both programs would accept that arrangement :) Btw, our turn. ;)

Boston has been bidding basketball hard, and winning regional finals often, which makes the FF a near impossibility. Bostonians would rather have college basketball money coming in, as it means more in hotels and the whatnot.

Re: Frozen Four 2015 Where do we go from here?

If Illitch gets his new arena, I'd say Detroit is a definite possibility in a few years.

Re: Frozen Four 2015 Where do we go from here?

Nashville would be ok, but I love the idea of returning to Tampa.

I am on board with that.

No Newark, Detroit or NYC. Not looking forward to Philly considering the location of the rink. And the fact that Philly fans are generally irritating. :)
