Frozen Four 2015 Where do we go from here?

Re: Frozen Four 2015 Where do we go from here?

No reason to go to Dallas, ever. And not Detroit until they get a new facility. Unfortunately my favorite all time venue, Milwaukee, will never make it again because the Bradley Center (or whatever they call it now) is too small. Chicago is a nice substitute though.

Not too small, holds nearly 18K for hockey.

Interesting article. The figure I found most fascinating was that the Marathon generates $20 in revenue for every $1 that the FF generates. I'd never thought of the Marathon as competition for the FF, but it makes a lot of sense. I guess it's different if you have hundreds of thousands of participants and spectators, many of whom travel to Boston. No wonder it's hard to get people interested in an event that happens only a couple of weeks earlier.

agree, and i posted that paragraph at noon yesterday (the article was published saturday). bringing in "only" $6million for the event (under the assumption that at least three teams were traveling and visiting) made it seem like somewhat a 'no big deal'.

Re: Frozen Four 2015 Where do we go from here?

Having just returned from a bike ride, that included going through Cherry Blossom Land, I can vouch for this (not that I didn't know it before). The blossoms haven't even hit peak yet.

Yeah, they're really late this year. I was reading in the Post online that there's like one tree in glorious bloom over on Ohio and a bunch of people were over there to get pictures and the like when a dead body floated up out of the river...eep.

No dead body, but there were some on 2nd street NW (near Constitution) that were in bloom (next to the Dept of Labor building)... not at full bloom in Arlington yet, but it'll happen within a week or so.

Re: Frozen Four 2015 Where do we go from here?

I think after 3 first time cities in a row (Tampa, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia), the tournament should return to a previous locale in 2015. I would enjoy Boston, St. Paul, Denver, Milwaukee. I agree that Tampa was fun last year; but I don't think it was as ready-for-the-tournament as it could have been. The shuttle trolley should have had more vehicles in service and extended hours. Also, the area where the teams' official bars were (can't remember the name) had no clue that a bunch of people might show up on Saturday to hang out before the final. Some of the official bars had many open tables but would not seat you because they were not staffed for it. I have written to the NCAA after Tampa in hopes they could do a better job telling a host city what to expect.

Well, given that in DC, the sports bars a block and a half away from the arena didn't even know that the tournament was in town, having the bars set up was a big step in the right direction. Could it be improved, sure, but all in all, Tampa did a fantastic job.

Re: Frozen Four 2015 Where do we go from here?

I don't need my *** kissed, but I like it when stuff doesn't close at 10 pm on a Thursday with 10,000 people looking for food or drinks... or the local places are prepared for crowds and are able to handle them and make them feel welcome. Handling a crowd for one NHL game is different than handling a Frozen Four crowd that is staying all weekend.
Yep, this is a good point. After a Frozen Four game, everyone goes out, because we're all on vacation and that's what you do when you're on vacation. After an NHL game, many people go home.
mookie can't believe he keeps reading peeps want nyc, but not san juan.

outside of the weather, there is no difference ;) (er, and priceless can't take the train)
But NYC would be so CHEAP! (For those of us who wouldn't need flights or hotels. :D)

Its no different than home for me... if I am going out I want decent service and a good time. Just you go out more on a trip.

Right, that's what I meant - the expectations for quality of offerings are the same, but Frozen Four crowds are more likely to take advantage of those offerings in larger numbers.

Well, one thing to consider is many marathoners come into the greater Boston area a week or so in advance to prerun the course and aclimate, thus spending more money.

And it's just WAY more people. 20,000 runners alone, and (according to Wikipedia) around 500,000 spectators.

Re: Frozen Four 2015 Where do we go from here?

I just had a thought - they need to go back to Minneapolis so I can get a Jucy Lucy sometime in the next few years.

Re: Frozen Four 2015 Where do we go from here?

How about before figuring out where to play, the NCAA figures out a way to get fans to go. This year's Frozen Four is the least interesting one imaginable, maybe even worse than 2009. Without a marquee program in it, who cares where it's held?
