Re: Frozen 4 seat locations
Agree with all that. On reflection, some of the BC presence stems from BC fans being well enough networked, skilled and experienced to find high priority seats on the secondary market. To put it another way, some of the BC fans I've noticed over the years are getting into high priority seats with cash rather than points. No doubt that goes for MN fans as well. But BC fans may have more opportunities to "network locally" with other fanbases, just based on geographic realities.Could affect the secondary market, and therefore the size and enthusiasm of the crowd. Agree with you that the pool of priority holders includes a lot of MN fans, but not so sure about BC; I think the pool of high priority BC fans is enthusiastic, but small (though by that time, BC had a nice run of FF appearances, which might have resulted in a lot of medium priority fans). If MN makes the FF, the MN fan base is large enough that there will be a lot of fans who aren't priority holders that will want to buy tickets*.
Perhaps the single biggest reason Tampa 2012 > Anaheim 1999. The "willingness to travel" variable is night and day different when comparing '99 to '12. In '99, most of the Frozen Four fanbase complained very bitterly about being asked to fly to SoCal. But in '12, the option to travel to Tampa was well received by most, and exercised by many.A long weekend in Tampa is very enticing to New England residents because of long winters and plentiful, not too expensive direct flights.
I'm not sure who we should be rooting for this time around to help fill the building. But you're absolutely correct, the specific teams involved have a big impact on the ultimate demand level. And this year, more than most, fans of the participating schools will be needed to fill the seats.I also think that the presence of Union (who at the time were an up-and-comer) and Ferris could make a difference because their fans wouldn't be "financially fatigued" by having to expend the time and money to go to the FF frequently
Good story!*I may never do another good deed in my life, but I made a Minnesota fan very happy in 2002. Couldn't attend the FF and sold my tickets to a Minnesota fan at face value. He sent me a check, never asking for any kind of verification. I sent him the tickets and, from the emails I got he must have been checking the tracking number every five minutes. Of course Minny won in OT.
