I've been watching college hockey for years, i can count on one hand the number of times I've seen a team legitimately put up around 45 shots in a game, and they were all utter dominations by that team. There simply is no way you're going to have one team putting up 45 and the other putting up 35, let alone 40+ of their own.
Possibly skating 3x3 on a sheet as big as middlebury's, then you'd get results like that. But in a real college hockey game, the only way you get stats like that is counting dump ins, blocked shots, every time the goalie touches or freezes the puck, and shots that sail wide.
Go keep track yourself next game. Remember, it's only a save if there was intent to score, and the puck would have gone in if the goalie hadn't stopped it. Shots wide of the net that are still deflected by the goalie don't count, neither do poke checks on loose pucks, dump ins that trickle on net, posts/crossbars, or stoppages.
Come back next time you see a team hit 60
