Re: Friday 2/18/2011 Scores - Last Friday of Regular Season
Castleton@Williams Recap - Castleton dominated the first period, especially their power play attempts.
The first power play was so quick and so easy, you could compare it to a DI vs Jr B game. Castle won the faceoff and did a tic tac toe with nearly everyone open.
Williams got their own chance on the power play and looked anemic until they got control late and wristed a screened shot into the back of the net. Castleton came back with their only non power play goal by just overpowering Williams tentative defense.
Two more Castleton goals on power plays, not as dominating, but very close as Williams could just not cover everyone and there was almost always someone open for Castleton in quality shooting lanes.
Concerning Castleton's 2nd power play -> I would like to hear from someone who was at the game because the way I saw it, the Williams player was a foot away from the Castleton player, and he just lost his edge. But they called a tripping. Unless the player did someone I just didn't see(I'd be amazed) this is the second worst call I've seen. You can't just call something because a player falls down. I was thinking after the end of the period that the penalty didn't matter, that Williams needed to be better on the PK, and it won't mean anything at the end, but I think I was mistaken.
Williams came out in the second period and made it an even playing game, even kind of took some control of the period. Partially because they didn't take any penalties. They were able to get a weak one past Castleton's goalie. Williams got two more quality chances that were denied by Castleton's goalie.
In the third, Castleton got another PP and obviously converted. The power play brought Castleton the win, by far. Williams got one back to make it 5-3. And I had that feeling that if the 2nd PP for Castleton never happened, it would have been 4-3. Anyways, Williams got some more chances, somehow, they missed an empty net. I was far away so could not tell if it was a bad shot or a stick in the way. They would have another empty net shot that was again missed on a one timer. Williams also had two PPs in the last 10 minutes but could not covert. Castleton did not give them many chances, except for the odd shift.
I was impressed by Castleton's PP, and Williams resiliency in the 2nd and 3rd periods.
