Friday 10/22/10 Scores, rants, and other wonderful topics

Re: Friday 10/22/10 Scores, rants, and other wonderful topics

PP's all over the place, NOOOO flow to game, Elmira looked faster from the 2nd period on, they also seem to be using a trap of sorts that made the Oz dmen throw a bunch of bad clearing passes, otherwise, this looked liked the 1st game of the yr for both teams for sure, both boots and bremner looks fast, and beckwith was very good , # 1 star of the game for sure made some big saves when needed.......until tomorrow

I just think everyone on the Stout team has the same name and somehow it is "Stout".

Geneseo holds on for a 3-2 victory over Neumann, meaning the Ice Knights continue to be undefeated since being placed on NCAA probation. Which is all of surprising, amusing, and pretty darn nifty, really.

Can anybody who was at a game tell us how the new hybrid icing rule worked out (I seem to remember that that rule stuck, while mercifully the short handed rule didn't stick)? Were there any cases of the offending team getting the icing waved off by being first to the dots?

Impressive to say the least. Kudos to them.

Is Geneseo eligible for the postseason this year?

I've been seeing it in action in ACHA for a few weeks now. It took a week for the refs to get used to it, but once they did, it's been really fun to watch. So far, I've seen the attacking team win the race and get it waved off about 40% (my approximation) of the time. Since NCAA DIII is just starting up, I'd imagine these refs are still in the "getting used to it" phase, but I think it was a good change...

...although I can easily see somebody getting hurt with this.

They should be good to go. The punishment agreed to by Geneseo, Buffalo State, and the NCAA required the termination of the grant program which caused the playoff ineligibility. What caused the teams to not be allowed into the postseason last year was that they played games with players who had received the grants that year. With no grants to receive any more, both teams should be playoff eligible, as I understand it.

The schools will remain on self-imposed probation until January 27, 2012.

They say that Evan Smith & Nick Therrien (The two freshman goalies for the Utica Pioneers this season) are the two best goalies that have EVER come to Utica. So that was definitly expected friday night that they'd both do so well in net for the pioneers. The pioneers looked alright friday night for having 16 freshman and 2 seniors on the team this year, our defense needs to be improved a ton if we want any chance of beating teams like Neumann or Elmira or Manhattanville. Our Offense still has to get the concept of shooting rather than play hot potato in the offensive zone with the puck everytime were there, but i think we'll work the kinks out of it so who knows how this season will shape.Brockport is a pretty good team this year and them scoring one goal against Utica friday is an understatement, so SUNYAC teams, definitly have your gaurd up against this team! There goalie(Oliver Wren) is VERY good this season! :P Norm1909-God lets Hope So! :D

Better than Adam Dekker?

I don't think I've ever seen a goaltender have a better two nights than he had at the Domes a few years ago.

Utica could have played five on three the whole game and Elmira still wouldn't have scored on him.

Hahaha well you've got a point there PrezdeJohnson09, that is true, i dont know if their an Adam Dekker, but the rumor in Utica is that these two goalies(ones a canadian from BC) are VERY good to say the least but we'll really see i guess when they get a taste of some EcacWest teams in a few weeks. Remember too that UC's Defense hasent been the best to say the least in recent years and goalies have been depended on more than they should have so hopefully with this and our defense being improved this season can be a succesfull one.Good point though ;)

Not trying to put down Utica here, but you were playing Brockport. Utica gave up 34 shots on goal to Brockport. Plattsburgh gave up 34 shots on goal to Brockport in TWO games. They only averaged 15 shots a game against Oswego. Don't get too excited yet. Lets see how the Sheridanless Eagles do come Saturday....
